Job Description
Summary

The News Editor is responsible for news section of The Xavierite. The News Editor is responsible for assigning beats to news reporters and correspondents as well as maintaining contacts with contributors for the News Section.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Oversee the news section and its stories.

Qualifications

FEDERAL WORK STUDY REQUIRED

  • Attends news writing workshop held by Journalistic advisor and Assistant Director of Campus Life: Student Media.
  • Attends weekly general staff meeting.
  • Responsible for the News Section layout of The Xavierite newspaper
  • Meets weekly with his/her section writers
  • Ensures that the News Section is 3 pages of content per issue.
  • Maintains weekly-posted office hours in The Xavierite office. (6 hours per week)
  • Writes stories following the pyramid news writing style
  • Reports on all SXU and local area news events
  • Attends weekly section meeting with the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor in Chief
  • Produces 2 articles per week and oversees section layout
  • Ensures all articles are written accurately, fairly, and with as little biased as possible
  • Ensures that The Xavierite website has up to date stories
