About Your Role

This is a new position!As the Writer and Communications Assistant, you will play a key role in describing how The Improve Group can support organizations in making an impact. You will use your writing skills largely in writing proposals that describe our unique approach, illustrate our qualifications, and explain our proposed work activities and phases to potential clients. Your communications and marketing knowledge and interest will benefit the organization in supporting a variety of campaigns. And you will have an opportunity to learn about a variety of social programs and policies and how evaluation, research and planning can support them.

And as this is a new position, you will have the opportunity to help shape the path to advancement, whether that be mostly writing or communications or continuing a combination of both.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


1) Writing related to proposals:

  • Write proposals, using standard language, incorporating key messages, and tailoring to appropriate audience
  • Provide proof-reading support to proposals
  • Write and update staff resumes and biographies for use in proposals
  • Utilize and maintain standard language inventory of proposal messaging and content
  • Work toward playing a lead role in the proposal development process, seeking ways to incorporate efficiencies and improvements, including by creating, reviewing, and maintaining standard proposal content using best practices and style guidelines


2) Writing related to marketing and communications:

  • Edit and write content for newsletter, social media, and website
  • Support staff in a variety of communications needs by writing and editing content


3) Communications and marketing support:

  • Support the process of searching for and tracking new project opportunities
  • Support team to plan, develop, and execute marketing and communications strategies, including IG’s website and social media presence
  • Support event planning, including IG-hosted events and conference opportunities
  • Support planning and coordination of eNewsletter
  • Support administration, training and development of Salesforce CRM


4) Project Support:

  • Support project teams on client work on a limited basis


Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Base knowledge and interest in marketing and communications best practices
  • Adaptability to jump into projects quickly to provide support; handle multiple, challenging tasks in a quick-paced environment
  • Proven ability to write in a clear and engaging manner, particularly in articulating complex concepts for a lay audience; using thoughtful inquiry and probing questions to enhance understanding of key concepts and messages.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment
  • Interest in using and experimenting with a variety of tools for creativity (e.g., design, video production)
  • Proven ability to write high-quality content in different styles (e.g., informal/conversational, technical, instructional, academic)
  • Ability to get along with others and work in a collaborative team environment, even in demanding situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office


Additional preferred qualifications (not required):

  • Interest and experience with social justice issues
  • Experience in consulting services marketing
  • Experience with social media tools

FLSA Status: Exempt


Compensation: The annual salary for this position is currently set at $48,133.34. Our compensation philosophy includes an equity frame that calls us to be consistent and transparent. It also calls us to seek ways to remove any subjectivity that could cause inequities, and to correct inequities when we find them.
