The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist provides services to clients enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition program. The Maricopa WIC Program provides participant-centered, evidence-based nutrition and breastfeeding education, counseling, and support to over 40,000 clients per month. We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship upon hire
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration or RDN eligible and able to pass the credentialing exam within 12 months of hire, with the first attempt at credentialing exam occurring within three months of hire

Job Contributions
  • Assist Clinic Supervisor, Training Team, and Nutrition Services Manager in staff training/development activities at the clinics
  • Conduct nutrition and breastfeeding assessments
  • Provide counseling in a participant-centered manner through motivational interviewing and emotion-based counseling to elicit behavior changes
  • Function in a lead capacity in the absence of the Clinic Supervisor/Lead RDN
  • Act as a preceptor for Dietetic Interns
  • Provide services to WIC participants such as high-risk nutrition counseling, formula, and food approvals, verification of program eligibility, anthropometric, and hemoglobin tests
Working Conditions
  • A flexible work schedule is needed that may include evenings
  • Requires travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles used on County business
  • This is not a 100% telework position; there is an option to work in a shared clinic space, or time may be split working remotely from your home and in a shared clinic space; home access to a computer, mobile device, and the internet is necessary if you choose to split time between home and office; daily communication with co-workers will be through virtual meetings, email, and Microsoft Teams messaging. Participant interactions will include virtual appointments via video and phone as well as in-person appointments
  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
  • May be assigned to work at alternate WIC sites, as needed
  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
