Job Purpose
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in Welding Technology-related coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan.
The Technical Education Center (TEC) Welding Technology Program is an AWS SENSE-participating program and offers entry-level Welder Certifications and various welder qualifications. The position will consist of teaching Welding, Cutting, Safety, and Blueprint Reading. Applicant must have knowledge in these areas.
Position Description
  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in the Welding Technology program using learner centered pedagogy.
  • Participate in regular professional development.
  • Work with program personnel and coordinator on following the departmental budget and utilize the e-purchasing system for purchase and procurement of programmatic items.
  • Hold regular program meetings with program faculty and staff.
  • Transportation of students during field trips, customer jobs, and other activities per the college's policies and guidelines
  • Complete all assessment activities including program review and documentation per the Office of Assessment's guidelines.
  • Collaborate on textbook section and educational resources to support the program learning with program personnel.
  • Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  • Help to recruit and market the program to potential students.
  • Ensure program equipment stays current and on trend with the industry.
  • Maintain and update course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Specify, select, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget constraints.
  • Maintain an industry-based advisory board in support of a college-level Welding Technology program. The advisory board must meet a minimum of twice per year.
  • Ensure students are following appropriate safety practices.
  • Prepare course lesson plans utilizing the approved program syllabi.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure curriculum, resources, and materials are kept current with industry standards and practices.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Able to work professionally and collaboratively with industry partners.
  • Ability to train and work with diverse students and learners.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Knowledge of the latest industry technology and ability to integrate the technology into the program.
Position Qualifications and/or Education
Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
  • College Certificate in Welding or closely related field.
  • Experience and/or skills in areas such as: welding, fabrication, or a closely related field.
  • Teaching/training experience.
  • Five (5) years' experience in the welding industry, or a closely related trade.
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Associate degree or higher in a closely related field. Associate degree or higher in Welding, Technical Education, or a closely related traded field.
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Ten (10) years' experience or more in welding or closely related field(s).
  • Computer skills such as CAD blueprint reading and creation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Work Schedule
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. This position is grant funded through 06/24/2024. Continued employment after this date will be based on whether or not additional funding becomes available.
