Position Summary:

KFF is a nonprofit leader in health policy analysis, polling and survey research, and health journalism. KFF serves as a nonpartisan source of facts, information, and analysis for policymakers, the health care community, and the public.

Within the Communications team, KFF is seeking a Website Manager to oversee the organization’s website, KFF.org, and help bring engaging data visualizations and other research-driven web products to life. This position plays a crucial role on the Communications team by maintaining the organization’s website and WordPress CMS, managing enhancements and fixes, and ensuring accessibility and an overall positive user experience.

Working closely with the Senior Director for Digital and Creative, the Website Manager oversees the daily technical management of the KFF.org website, working closely with an external firm and in an Agile environment. The Website Manager also serves as the “product manager” for the website, liaising between program staff, Communications staff, design leads, and developers to publish digital features using the latest technologies that meet organizational goals. This involves overseeing the full life cycle of a range of web-based projects, such as data visualizations and interactive maps, from conception to QA and launch. This position would also play a critical role in a potential website redesign.

With a blend of website, product, and project management, this role is an exciting opportunity to hone a range of technology and management skills while collaborating with a great, mission-oriented team. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with strong technical skills, curiosity, and a proactive mindset. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in overseeing development of a website using a WordPress CMS, including experience with Gutenberg editor. The individual will also have a proven track record of successfully balancing internal and external audience needs and providing creative and successful solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as day-to-day website lead, working in close collaboration with web development vendor in an Agile environment, using a project management tool (Jira).
  • Oversee QA: troubleshooting, identifying and reporting bugs to web vendor, overseeing thorough testing of fixes, working closely with an agency. Communicate status of fixes to relevant colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with communications colleagues to measure and analyze website performance, including implementing and using Google Analytics.
  • Analyze performance, identify testing opportunities, and implement optimizations for existing products.
  • 40% Product Management:
    • Guide web-based product strategy and development with a user-centric approach.
    • Serve as a liaison between program staff, Communications staff, design leads, and developers in the development and maintenance of web-based products on an ongoing basis. Communicate updates and progress from one team to another.
    • Manage a cross-functional group of stakeholders to develop and launch digital products in an Agile environment, collaborating closely with an external firm.
    • Oversee the full life cycle of a digital project from conception to QA and launch. This can include interviewing stakeholders and end-users, creating user journeys, building and communicating requirements, developing roadmaps, timelines and testing plans, and facilitating UAT.
    • Discover opportunities to enhance product features and offering, and present findings to senior leaders.
    • Help shape development priorities and the long-term roadmap by facilitating planning across in-house staff and developers.
    • Facilitate retrospectives to improve internal processes around development and launch.
