Position Information


Home to SXSW and glorious natural springs and parks, Austin, Texas is also the location of the new state-of-the-art Texas Department of Transportation Headquarters. We are looking for a Full Stack Web Developer to join our award-winning web team. This role leverages skills and experience to build and manage existing and new TxDOT websites. This is a hybrid in-person/remote position.


Minimum Salary : 75,000.00 Maximum Salary : 95,000.00 Pay Basis : Yearly

Position Description


Performs highly advanced web design and development work for the Creative Services section in the Communications Division. Work involves managing web environment design, deployment, development, and maintenance activities. Work requires extensive contact with department leadership and external governmental agencies and organizations. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

  • Creates website layout/user interfaces by using standard HTML/HTL/CSS practices.
  • Writes well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices.
  • Communicates with clients to determine website specifications, creating schedules and providing quotes, writing code and working with a team of designers and content writers.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 5 years experience in Interface design, Information architecture, User mobile design and/or web site design and production (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) development
  • Computer Science degree
  • Experience with agile development processes in a team environment

Competencies:

Extensive knowledge of-

  • HTML,CSS, XML, Flash, Java, JavaScript, JQuery and other presentations-layer development platforms and tools
  • User-centered web design and development project methodologies
  • Web accessibility, Section 508 and WCAG checkpoint compliance

Considerable knowledge of-

  • GitHub
  • API development/maintenance (such as Sling, JCR, OSGi)

Ability to-

  • Show initiative and action beyond what is required to improve products or services; is self-starting and completes assignments independently without constant supervision
  • Develop and troubleshoot website integrations
  • Coding for responsive designs and proper display in a variety of targeted browser technologies
  • Learn new programming languages
  • Embrace opportunities to learn and apply emerging technologies to enhance communications

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
