Summary

The Chemical Specialist performs routine sampling and analysis of plant chemical processes to support the operation of Water Resources. Reviews plant data and revises process control strategies to maintain plant chemistry. Performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting on analytical instrumentation.


The Sr Chemical Specialist provides analytical and technical process chemistry expertise to support the Water Resources operations. Reviews plant data and revises process control strategies to maintain plant chemistry. Performs advanced maintenance and troubleshooting on analytical instrumentation.

Minimum Requirements

A four-year Bachelors degree in Chemistry or other science-related discipline from an accredited college or university. In lieu of bachelors degree, a combination of college coursework and/or experience in Chemistry or other science-related positions equaling four (4) years.


SR Minimum Requirements

A four-year Bachelors degree in Chemistry or other science-related discipline from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years of experience in Chemistry or other science-related positions. In lieu of bachelors degree, a combination of college coursework and/or experience in Chemistry or other science-related positions equaling seven (7) years.



Preferred Special skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
Experience working at a water treatment facility.
Nuclear requirement:
Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVGS.

Major Accountabilities

1) Performs routine and non-routine sampling. Performs analysis and process testing of plant chemical processes to support the operation of Water Resources. Performs highly sensitive sample collection of state regulated sample points in accordance with regulated guidelines. Collects and transports samples for analysis. Identifies the source of unknown samples. Obtains and delivers samples for outside laboratory analysis.


2) Reviews plant data and revises process control strategies to maintain plant chemistry quality. Provides process change recommendations according to trending and analysis.


3) Operates and performs advanced maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of laboratory and field instrumentation utilizing Laboratory Analytical Quality and Control methods standard to the industry. Equipment includes but is not limited to: conductivity meter, atomic absorption spectrometer, total organic carbon analyzer, auto-titrator, Ion chromatograph, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer. Maintains lab equipment preventative maintenance schedule.


4) Provides laboratory administration by preparing procedures, analytical schedules, statistical reports, plant process performance reports and laboratory data summaries. Ensures appropriate records are maintained. Initiates purchase requests for lab equipment, materials, and chemicals. Generates Chemical Use Permit requests (CUP). Reviews lab bench logbooks for proper documentation and accuracy.


5) Participates in and leads state mandated audits regarding analytical practices and data. Participates in sitewide Chemical Control Plan regarding chemicals used on site and allowed areas of use.


6) Participates in Chemical Use Review Board (CURB).


7) Performs Quality Assurance Program Review. Supports Quality Assurance Program audit. Responds to Quality Assurance Program deficiencies. Documents and implements corrective actions.
