The Wastewater Compliance Inspector Serves as a member of the Wastewater and Pretreatment Compliance Team within the Water Pollution Compliance Section. Participate in the implementation of the wastewater compliance program, but assist with overall National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance effort. Work closely with Regional Office inspection staff dealing with wastewater inspections. Implement Industrial Pretreatment Program in assigned area.


Job Duties


  • Assist in the implementation of the Pretreatment Compliance Program. Schedule and conduct inspections and audits of permitted pretreatment programs as needed to meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department goals. Review and log pretreatment program reports in state database (ePermitting). Provide technical/regulatory assistance to programs as needed. Participate in and provide any needed support to the host of the Pretreatment Consortium meetings.
  • Build rapport with and provide technical assistance to Regional Environmental Affairs (EA) offices in assigned area. Serve as technical resource for new regional inspection staff. Provide assistance to enforcement personnel as needed. Help coordinate and participate in periodic wastewater committee meetings as needed. Coordinate with peers to assist in the preparation and processing of the Wastewater Evaluation Task list, Notice of Deficiency report, and assigned Pretreatment Performance Summary Reports and tracking report.
  • Perform related duties as required/assigned, including but not limited to: helping with the development and updating of inspection forms, attending training classes as required, and fulfilling other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate wastewater treatment facility inspection program. Process and distribute Compliance Evaluation Inspection (CEI) and Compliance Sampling Inspection (CSI) reports. Review inspection reports for accuracy and completeness and enter data into the appropriate state database (ePermitting) and verify appropriate entry into federal tracking systems (ICIS). Review responses to compliance reports and follow standard procedures/regional coordination to ensure corrective actions. Access LIMS database and extract lab data for CSI reports.
  • Track status of inspection commitment progress throughout the year by coordinating with regional staff and comparing to established timeframes for submitted inspections. Ensure consistency within the team and among the EA regions.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field.
