Job Description
We are looking to fill a full time Waste Water Technician position with a manufacturer located in the area of Clanton, AL. This is a night shift position. If you fit the requirements below, please send your resume for consideration.


PAY RANGE: $13.50 to $16.75 per hour plus $1.00 shift differential. There is no relocation assistance. You must be able to commute or relocate at your own expense.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Ensures the quality of all industrial wastewater and sludge leaving the facility meet the standards as they are outlined by the EPA/ADEM. Monitors the effluent of all equipment used for the testing and treatment of industrial wastewater. Perform wastewater in-house testing and sample preparation for outside testing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Waste Water Activity:


  • Operate, service, and perform minor repairs of the Solid Waste Filter Press.
  • Monitors wastewater inlet, batch holding system, and effluent with constant monitoring and testing of the wastewater.
  • Provide support in laboratory.
  • Operates, maintains and services the Anodize Purification Unit (APU).
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to the discharge of industrial wastewater.
  • Performs and maintains lab equipment, reagents, and standards for all industrial wastewater testing.
  • Willingness to travel on as needed bases.
  • Calibrate and operate PH meters and wastewater sampling equipment.
  • The willingness to take on all additional responsibilities that are assigned.
  • Performs in-house testing of wastewater samples using equipment such as: pH meter, Phosphate test kits, and Spectrophotometer.
  • Help establish and maintain SPC targets.


Corrective/ Preventive Action:


  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to: the clarifier, pumps, sampler, and flow meter, batch holding tank, mixers, pH meter, filter press or other areas of responsibility.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • In the event of a spill or nonconformance of wastewater the employee must be able to manage the spill until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Properly follows all company policies, with attention paid to “Safety Policies”.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


High School Diploma (Associates Degree or graduation from a 1-year certificate program in Waste Water Management preferred)


Knowledge of the Federal Clean Water Act and Federal Safe Drinking Water Act is a plus.


Competence in basic mathematics, chemistry and biology.


Certified Waste Water Operator (Desired)


Computer experience, to include, word, excel, power point, gage pro, quality systems software and profit finders.


Experience with PLEX (ERP) System a plus.


ADDITIONAL TRAINING:


  • Assisting with any lab performed quality testing.
  • Unloading and loading of Chemical Trucks and Tankers.
  • Working during emergencies
  • Monitoring and reporting Utilities and Chemical Inventories.
  • Additional job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Sampling, testing and making additions to the Anodize system.
  • Experience in using auto feeding system for the addition of chemical’s in all aspects of the production process.
  • Monitoring and Regeneration of the DI Units.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. Physical requirements of employee are exerting up to 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 lbs. of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch and to lift objects of weight not exceeding 60 pounds. Employee must utilize proper body mechanics. Physical demand requirements are in excess for sedentary work.


SUMMARY OF WORKING CONDITIONS:


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions. While performing this job the operator will be exposed to unpleasant odors. The operators work is physically demanding and often is performed in unclean locations.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have to handle and work around various chemicals used for Wastewater Treatment and Aluminum Anodizing. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, hearing protection is required. Operators must pay close attention to safety procedures because of the presence of hazardous conditions, such as slippery walkways, dangerous gases and malfunctioning equipment.


Employee is aware of potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold). Employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by personnel, visitors, and the needs of other departments.
