About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Boston Scientific as the VP of Research & Development responsible for the Interventional Oncology & Embolization (IO&E) franchise in the Peripheral Interventions division. Our portfolio of products enable physicians to improve the lives of patients suffering from cancer and other life-altering diseases, with a wide variety of technologies and therapies, including local radiation delivery, single use devices and electronic medical equipment.
Reporting into the President, IO&E franchise, the role plays an important leadership contribution to the IO&E Leadership team and will be based in Maple Grove MN. The role collaborates closely with VP, Program Management, NTA and other functions involved in the development process, namely Marketing, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory, Process Development, and Operations.
Primary Responsibilities Include
  • Assessment of external technologies, for investment or acquisition, drive R&D integration activities as needed
  • Key leadership role across all phases of new product development including portfolio strategy, prioritization, and governance
  • Driving NPD Excellence: timely development of new products with high quality and performance
Your Responsibilities Include
  • Create an entrepreneurial, action-based culture with a passion for winning.
  • Proactively review future technologies and plan needed resources.
  • Support Strategic Planning process to include prioritization and trade-off decisions.
  • Champion new programs or refocuses existing initiatives based on knowledge of unmet clinical needs of customers and develops proposals for new projects.
  • Overall Functional Leader for the IO&E R&D function in the achievement of R&D organizational goals.
  • Ensure sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions.
  • Empowers teams and fosters a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.
  • Collaboratively determines short and long-term product strategies and technologies.
  • Provide vision, direction and prioritization in managing a funnel of exploratory projects, with an agile and robust approach towards determining which projects proceed to TDP/PDP stage, are retired, and are iterated.
  • Encourage problem-solving efficiently leading to solutions.
  • Set performance expectations and ensure the team has a strong culture of high-performance, collaboration and winning spirit. Be a champion of diversity, equity inclusion, and belonging.
  • Find and create future leaders…constantly recruits & develops talent.
  • Identify external technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth.
  • Support Business Development (M&A strategy) including target recommendations, strategic rationale, financial case and integration planning.
  • Develops strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications.
  • Supports and reinforces divisional and corporate quality system.
  • Acts as a leader across the matrix of NPD and PI business functions. Experience leading and driving across functions.
  • Develop effective and persuasive presentations for Executive Leadership engagements
  • Develop and ensure budgets and schedules meet business needs/objectives.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in product portfolio management; evaluating customer needs, investment decisions & trade-offs, evaluating performance and course-correcting as needed
  • Experience leading a large global R&D team for complex business(es)
  • A vision/mission focused leader who courageously challenges the status quo.
  • Ability to understand and connect authentically with all levels and types of employees. Drive high levels of engagement and build a culture of high performance, inclusion and fun.
  • 5+ years’ experience directly managing senior level leaders. Preference for previous experience managing large teams through their People Leaders.
  • 10 years+ technical experience involved with any aspect of the product development and manufacturing process.
  • BS degree in Engineering or applicable technical field with advanced degree preferred
  • Strong track record of working globally and cross-functionally across a matrix organization. Builds strong stakeholder relationships.
  • 12 or more years of technical medical device/pharma product development experience
