Position Description


The VP of Community Operations/Executive Director is responsible for leading, administering, and directing (through Department Directors) all operations of the life-plan community,. Within the framework of delegated authority and consistent with Sun Health policies and procedures for the community, this position ensures a quality program of services, sound fiscal operation, and good management of all internal and external affairs, thereby providing a point of accountability for all activities.

  • Health Care Administrator (responsible for nursing and overall operations of the Health & Rehab Center)
  • Executive Assistant
  • Business Office Manager (manages finance at the community level)
  • Associate Executive Director (responsible for Dining Services, Facilities/Housekeeping, Customer Service, and Life Enrichment)
  • Resident Services Director (manages healthcare for Independent Living residents, including EMTs)
  • Sales & Marketing Manager


Responsibilities


  • Oversees the development of specific budgets for each department within the organization, makes periodic operations adjustments in order to achieve budgetary objectives, and recommends adjustments to meet substantial operational changes.
  • This position has full managerial scope and authority for employment actions, including coaching, candidate selection, training and development, performance appraisals, work assignments, and disciplinary action.
  • Implements actions to maintain a low level of accidents and incidents across the community, and monitors staffing levels in compliance with regulatory requirements and budgetary provisions.
  • Functions as a professional liaison with local hospitals, nursing centers, and retirement facilities and maintains collaborative relationships with the residents and resident representatives.
  • Recommends modifications to the community's residency and miscellaneous marketing agreements, marketing policies, pricing, and sales discounts, with the support of the local Sales and Marketing Manager and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
  • Directs and coordinates the development of the community's advertising plan in collaboration with the local Sales and Marketing Manager and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
  • Ensures resident and family satisfaction, monitors and implements remedial measures as required to ensure satisfaction.
  • Monitors staff effectiveness in the performance of job functions as well as monitoring maintenance of budget by effective cost control and consistent marketing to ensure the highest occupancy possible in the Independent Living and Health Care Centers.
  • Ensures the Health Care Administrator leads their staff to ensure residents' Highest quality of life and care is provided. Ensures regulatory compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Follows Sun Health's established performance management and leadership development programs; monitors procedures for employee performance evaluation.
  • Establishes approval for budgetary goals.
  • Manages and holds the campus's Sales and Marketing Manager and sales team accountable for the community's annual performance goals and overall census goals.
  • Owns and manages an annual marketing plan to determine annual sales goals in collaboration with the local Sales and Marketing Manager and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
  • Monitors and supervises compliance with applicable government statutes, regulations, and standards. Assures Sun Health Communities' operating philosophies, standards, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Plans for the campus direction, monitors each department, defines the delegation of authority to department heads and other personnel, monitors performance in relation to established plans of action.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and the campus's Sales and Marketing Manager, ensures the sales team has clear expectations and monitors and maintains accountability to support the day-to-day marketing activities and programs to meet budgeted monthly and annual sales goals.
  • Follows the Sun Health organization plans by defining divisions of operations, a chain of command, and allocation of functions and reporting relationships.
  • Demonstrate the Sun Health Vibrant Living culture and provide all customers/audience with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating Sun Health behaviors (The 6Cs) each and every day.
  • Develops a positive professional relationship with residents, resident family members, team members, professional organizations, community groups, and other appropriate entities as the leader of the community.


Skills And Knowledge


  • Ability to lead and direct the leadership to effectively supervise team members and work collaboratively in an organization or community that is considered a 'best place to work.'
  • Demonstrated success communicating verbally and in writing, with strong presentation skills for audiences at all levels in both small and large groups.
  • Experience in a life care setting.
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a variety of audiences; residents, resident family members, community groups and organizations, government agencies, peers, direct reports, team members, and senior leadership.
  • A broad understanding of federal, state, and local laws and guidelines related to the operation and management within a long-term care or continuing care retirement community is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of basic accounting.
  • Strong operational and financial management background with proven success in creating and executing strategies and plans to increase overall business performance, census, and positive business outcomes.
  • Computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office Products that include high proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Requirements

  • Reliable transportation in an employee-provided vehicle, a current Driver's license, and auto insurance are required.
  • Possess current or ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five to seven years of related management/supervisory experience.
  • Nursing Home license preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred


Compensation: Competitive base salary + variable pay program. This position is exempt from overtime pay and is eligible for bonus compensation of up to 30%.
