Job Description
Chief Information Officer

Rapid7’s Information Technology team is seeking a leader who is energized by enabling a high growth company to work more efficiently for their customers. The Chief Information Officer will lead a team responsible for identifying and solving pain points through technological enhancements. We are looking for not just a thought partner, but a business partner who can help the company move forward at a rapid pace!

About The Team

The Information Technology team is composed of technology and business experts who securely enhance capabilities, information, and experiences that result in positive business outcomes. Their mission is to make Rapid7 faster and better at enabling our customers to close the security achievement gap.

About The Role

The CIO will lead a global and expanding organization to deliver on our mission of closing the security achievement gap by leveraging technology and data to make our employees more productive and efficient. This mission includes creating great experiences from on-boarding to workplace experience, business applications and data integration, commercialization of Rapid7’s products and services, and direct-facing customer experiences such as support, billing, and payment. This role works directly with senior executives to define, prioritize and deliver on the digital capabilities that are needed to scale to a 1b+ company that is closing the security achievement gap for our customers.

In This Role, You Will

  • Grow and develop people to their full potential. The CIO will lead a diverse global team of product managers, business analysts, engineers, network engineers, IT security, service desk, and architects to help them grow and develop faster than the business. The team right now is primarily located in Boston, Belfast, Austin, and Los Angeles, with remote employees in Europe, Australia, and North America.
  • Keep the company and our data assets safe. The CIO is a critical partner to the CSO delivering on our security roadmap, responding to incidents and remediating security issues as they arise. As we build, we think like defenders, and our defenders think like builders. We embed our teams together to build this culture and operational excellence including secure design review, automated vulnerability detection, and automated response activities. The IT team is responsible for endpoint security, cloud security for infrastructure maintained by IT, network security, vulnerability management, and business application monitoring and response. The Rapid7 IT team uses the full suite of Rapid7 security products and partner products to keep our assets safe. This makes us Customer Zero, with the security team, and enables us to provide feedback and guidance on product strategy for the products team. The CIO is also responsible for SOX, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, and other compliance initiatives and regulations to meet our corporate obligations and objectives.
  • Implement strategies to ensure Delivery Excellence on roadmaps, in an agile way, with cross-functional peers. Once outcomes are socialized, documented, and approved, the product, engineering and project management teams then break down the work, prioritizes the work and maps the dependencies to create an agile plan. We execute using agile, lean, and Lean Startup methodologies depending on the outcome and type of work across the entire IT team so proven agile leadership experience is required.
  • Co-create IT, technical and business strategy with executive leadership. This involves defining the primary business and customer outcomes, socializing and aligning executives and teams on those outcomes, and documenting the metrics for success.
  • Select and manage the best technology vendors to deliver on the mission. Rapid7 has a cloud-first approach to delivering technology, leveraging best-in-class vendors to deliver amazing experiences. We integrate these vendors to bring the information our customers or end users need, when they need it, in a way that brings them joy. We do that using cloud-based integration platforms, maintained by our enterprise automation team, and extended by our business-based super users. This approach enables fast delivery of new information by the people closest to the problem (e.g., the support team manages some of the technology stack for queuing support tickets to the right engineers and does not depend on the IT team to make changes). Part of the CIO role is to hold our vendors accountable to delivery of value, with regular QBRs and support engagements, and negotiation of commercial terms alongside our procurement team.

The Skills You’ll Bring Include

  • Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills with experience working cross-functionally to achieve team and company goals.
  • Proven experience at growing the skills, knowledge and impact of technical and non-technical team members.
  • Experience in a technology vendor leadership role highly preferred
  • Austin, Texas, Boston, MA or Tampa, FL are preferred locations; ability to travel is required.
  • Proven ability to build and scale teams in fast-paced environments.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT, Engineering and/or Product Leadership roles.
  • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Proven experience managing technical teams and understanding of architecture, approach, and implementation decisions.
  • Proven experience in change management and aligning organizations for maximum impact.
  • Outstanding leadership experience with proven ability to develop talent, unite teams and foster an innovative environment for teams to thrive in.

We know that the best ideas and solutions come from multi-dimensional teams reflecting a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences. If you are excited about this role and feel your experience can make an impact, please don’t be shy - apply today.
