Job Description
The Vice President of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) is the strategic leader for overseeing and developing state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning pipelines, models, and applications. As the leader for AI/ML you’ll be responsible for technical contributions and consulting in the fields of machine learning, information retrieval, and artificial intelligence for optimization of The Fortrea CRO business model.

This individual will establish the AI/ML function and build the core team to align with Fortrea’s business and technical objectives. They will work closely with data scientists and engineers to develop and deploy highly capable AI/ML models and algorithms that address Fortrea's business challenges. This role serves as a champion of AI/ML by facilitating efforts to incorporate AI/ML capabilities into the Fortrea business model, applications and processes.
Responsibilities:
  • Promote and plan designed variance (prospective designed experiments, A/B tests, natural or business case variance) to test marketing impact and value.
  • Build and lead a team of AI/ML professionals, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI researchers. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's success while building a collaborative culture that embraces new ideas.
  • Align advanced AI/ML techniques with stakeholder objectives and goals.
  • Build out modeling ecosystem to answer a variety of sales and marketing questions, such as marketing mix, attribution, channel optimization, spend optimization and causal impact.
  • Identify and eliminate friction points within the organization by streamlining processes, reducing manual efforts, and implementing automation where applicable.
  • Collaborate with data engineering to define and implement data strategies that support AI/ML initiatives. Ensure the availability, quality, and security of data required for training and deploying AI/ML models.
  • Stay current with latest AI/ML methodologies for use in sales and marketing analytics.
  • Be a thought leader in data and AI/ML with the objective of driving KPIs for the business.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for AI/ML initiatives aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. Example initiatives include fraud detection, bid win/loss prediction, study scheduling, predictive analytics, automated image analysis, genomics, clinical decision support systems, and pattern recognition.
  • Effectively answer data science questions, build ML pipelines, and integrate results into business outcomes.
  • Bring a passion for creative solutioning and proven ability to perform on fast-paced and high-performing teams.
  • Monitor the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies, tools, methodologies, both in the CRO and CRO-adjacent space (such as Proscia, SOPHiA, PathAI), and ML Ops more broadly. Explore and evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities for adoption within the organization.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including business leaders and department heads, to understand their requirements and ensure that the Fortrea’s technical capabilities align with their needs and support business objectives.
  • Work with a global group of data scientists and engineers.
  • Work with ML Engineers to scale current pipelines and increase automation of AI/ML deliverables.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices, making recommendations for the adoption of new technologies and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Collaborate with business partners and other data scientists to expand the use of analytics within the CRO domain.
  • Lead development of processes and metric monitoring across deployed AI/ML models. Embed model retraining, validation, and continuous improvement into Fortrea's AI/ML development strategy.
  • Identify areas where AI/ML can add value and drive innovation within the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clinical operations, security, applications, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of strategic data and integration solutions.
Experience:
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with business acumen, and an ability to think strategically in an ambiguous environment
  • Exceptional technical skills and ability to design, architect, and implement AI/ML solutions
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML and Data Engineering toolchains, pipelines, and model training techniques
  • Expertise in any of the following AI/ML domains: Causal AI, Reinforcement Learning, Generative AI, NLP, Dimension Reduction, Computer Vision, Sequential Models
  • Proven track record of identifying, hiring, growing, and retaining top talent from the industry and leading graduate programs
  • 15+ years of experience in emerging technology and innovation roles
  • Ability to use AI / ML techniques to solve real-world business problems. Some examples would be appropriate use of gradient boosting algorithms, [sequential] neural networks, forecasting methods, and advanced data pipeline development.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), interpersonal influencing skills and prioritization skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with relevant programming languages (R and/or Python)
  • Strong operational and management skills with a track record of consistently meeting project deadlines, budgets and delivering results
  • Excellent leadership and management skills to inspire teams, prioritize resources, and manage timelines and deliverables. Strong communication would be essential for effective collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Experience working with leadership from engineering, product, operations, and compliance to craft a roadmap and measures of success
  • Experience with healthcare data is a plus
  • Ability to translate technical work for business partners
  • 5+ years of experience in leading a world class machine learning team
  • Experience with extracting value from clinical research data and applying insights to drive business outcomes
Education:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, machine learning, data science, statistics, artificial intelligence or relevant areas
Pay Range: $250,000-$350,000 (The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity)
