Job Description
  • Assist in admissions, enrollment, and testing and orientation of students in our vocational programs
  • Provide support and back-up for small group employment
  • Mentor students in offsite work opportunity programs
  • Attend and participate in appropriate internal and external meetings and trainings
  • OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain records and monitor reports
  • POSITION SUMMARY: The Vocational Academy Teaching Assistant supports the Vocational Academy Instructors with preparation and delivery of instructional materials. This position is responsible for coordinating many of the administrative components of the vocational academy, including: interfacing with other departments to ensure program consistency; gathering data and generating reports; organizing logistics to maximize student learning opportunities; assisting instructional staff and giving individualized attention to students as needed; learning and training others in customized software; and performing other tasks as assigned including mentoring students in offsite work opportunity programs. This position is offered at 35-40 hours per week.
  • Monitor for fall risk, aspiration risk, unwanted behaviors or other protocols as described in student safety plans
  • Remain current on Behavior Support Plans and other safety protocols as outlined in meetings and written documents
  • Coordinate with Case Management and Managers in recording, updating, and adapting work instructions and data
  • May need to assist with toileting or other personal supports (handwashing, personal hygiene)
  • Provide support to the classroom teachers in all programs, including online programs
  • Assist with transport and instruction in offsite community settings
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Experience with adaptive technology & adapting instructional methods to individual learners
  • Valid Oregon driver's license with driving record sufficient to qualify to drive agency vehicles
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass an Oregon Department of Human Services background check
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and other physical disabilities
  • Work conditions may vary depending on the instructional location
  • MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND:
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Working conditions will typically be based in an indoor climate controlled environment
  • Continuous mental and visual focus is required while working with students including monitoring classroom activities, transporting to and from off-site locations and directing positive communication and behavioral directives.
  • The physical effort typically applied in this job may include: Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Carrying, Reaching, Bending, Keying/Typing, Driving, Standing, Walking, Speaking and Repetition. Much of this will depend on the specific demands of the day to day tasks assigned.

  • It is imperative that attendance protocols are adhered to and that Department Call-In Policies are maintained at all times
