Virtual School Counselor Jobs

ACCEL Schools is seeking highly-qualified Virtual School Counselors in Michigan for our upcoming 2023-2024 school year! Michigan Online School is an accredited online school serving students in grades K–12. We offer a robust curriculum and interactive online school platform. We are seeking teachers who are excited to create a rigorous and nurturing classroom environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development. ACCEL SCHOOLS uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods.

The Virtual School Counselor supports overall student success by partnering with staff members and families to inform student specific academic programming, create and maintain graduation and career plans, and provide proactive and preventative services.

***Michigan Residency and Current School Counselor Certification are requirements***

Responsibilities:

• Review transfer student transcripts and inform appropriate course placements
• Respond to individual and group needs with responsive counseling and programming
• Maintain and review transcripts for active students and inform credit award procedures
• Provide career readiness curriculum and facilitate creation of career plans
• Analyze student data to provide input on appropriate academic programs and interventions
• Create and maintain student graduation plans
• Deliver proactive guidance curriculum to individuals and groups
• Travels to support testing efforts and school events within the state as needed
• Create and maintain Student 504 plans

Skills/Qualifications:

• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Customer service oriented
• Bachelor's degree plus one (1) year previous experience in counseling and/or advisement OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver's license and ability to perform occasional local and in-state travel
• Valid State School Counselor license
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
• Experience with K-12 online learning
• Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting
• Experience with the ASCA model
• Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations and make evidence-based decisions
• Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
• Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently.
