Virtual School College And Career Counselor (12 Month)

• Collect, retrieve, and analyze student intake information through PowerSchool student information systems, while also exchanging student information with high school officials in a secure approved manner.
• Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning; builds rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion; monitors student progress toward goals; conducts follow up with program participants; offers advisement as needed supports instructors and program efforts to infuse instruction with persistence and success strategies.
• Attends and participates in ongoing professional development including the EIS system to ensure accurate tracking of graduation cohort data and district supports.
• Coordinates student referrals to services to help overcome social and economic barriers; follows up on student transition to postsecondary education and career goals.
• Develops or works with local mentoring programs, business and/or community coaches to connect individual students with mentors and career opportunities.
• Identifies and counsels high school students at risk of dropping out and collaboratively works with school based and district personnel to develop a strategic plan to develop credit recovery and alternative options to adapt curriculum and differentiated instruction to meet their needs.
• Participate in Memphis Virtual School sponsored functions that promote college attainment which include post-secondary testing and school sponsored tours. Assist with professional development dual credit functions throughout the school year.
• Responsible for administration of the virtual registration/enrollment for students in grades 6-12 exclusively (full-time) and/or concurrently (part-time) enrolled in multiple middle/high schools Provides assistance to students and instructors to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance from high school upperclassmen to functioning early college participates.
• Assist students in the completion of postsecondary enrollment processes which includes, but is not limited to the admission application, course registration, financial aid, and new student orientation registration.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
• Work with surrounding business and workforce agencies to receive up to date information on high tech industry jobs and skills in demand.

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

• Knowledge of academic advising and career development principles and practices
• Ability to establish a connection with the student who is struggling academically and to help formulate an action plan to maintain satisfactory progress
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
