This Virtual Nurse role is an exciting new position! You will be involved in changing the nursing scope of practice and development of change within the nursing field. You will be able to interact with staff, patients, and families on a new level and help support the bedside staff. Virtual Nursing is on the rise and you will be on the forefront of the change.

Responsibilities


This virtual nurse role is responsible for supporting and driving the plan of care and providing comprehensive remote oversight of the care of patients on a medical-surgical or telemetry unit. The virtual model includes collaboration between the bedside team and virtual care members where the virtual RN will anticipate and direct the care of the patient through evaluating health promotion, risk reduction and advanced clinical decision-making.

Assumes accountability for patient care outcomes through the assimilation and application of evidence-based practice to design, implement and evaluate care. This is accomplished through coordinating, delegating and supervising the care provided by the unit-based health care team, including RNs, LPNs, certified assistants, hospitalists, specialty physicians, social workers, case managers and allied health professionals.

  • Effectively coordinates communication with members of the bedside interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with unit leadership and provides oversight of unit quality programs and metrics; ensures evidence-based practices are being followed by team members to provide the highest quality care and safety for patients.
  • Participates, as a key member of the management team for the assigned clinical function, in the development of strategies, initiatives and programs addressing matters such as: standardization of procedures across the organization, enhancing patient outcomes/satisfaction, enhancing team engagement, improving nurse satisfaction and other issues of similar complexity and consequence.
  • Monitors processes in collaboration with bedside staff and provides recommendations for care delivery improvement.
  • Collaborates virtually with physicians, nurses and other health care team members in the provision of clinical patient care, including virtual assessment of the medical, physical and psychological status of patients and responding to routine, urgent and emergent patient issues.
  • Proactively oversees the patient care plan to implement preventive measures that improve patient safety and the quality of care delivered via telemedicine technology and surveillance of physiological trends; drives risk reduction through participation in root cause analysis (RCA’s), quality surveillance as well as the compilation and interpretation of large data sets of patient information.
  • Supervises the comprehensive care of patients through coaching and mentoring bedside nurses and other care team members.
  • Supports management to ensure all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards/procedures and applicable regulatory requirements; assesses, on a continuous basis, services, patient outcomes, quality control and family/patient satisfaction to ensure optimal care and delivery; ensures that internal controls are sufficient to provide for accurate, complete and compliant programs and processes.

Qualifications


Graduate of an RN nursing program and active RN license

Minimum 3-5 years in clinical focus required.
One year leadership experience required (e.g. Charge RN or related experience).
BLS (Basic Life Support) is required upon hire.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required within 5 months of hire.

Pay Range

$35.18 - $51.01 /hour
