Job Description
The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Victim Services Coordinator in the Police Department. The Family Justice Center (FJC) Coordinated Community Response Specialist (CCR Specialist) performs administrative work providing direct and indirect assistance to clients and/or their families seeking services offered within the FJC, helping navigate all the services by interviewing and advising clients, building relationships with community organizations, providing technical assistance to partners. This is a grant funded position. Distinguishing Features of the Class: P erforms professional and compassionate work directing client interaction and program activity in a trauma-informed and safe environment at the Family Justice Center. The Family Justice Center (FJC) is one location where a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who work together, under one roof, to provide coordinated services to victims of family violence and sexual violence. The position is responsible for building relationships within the community, implementing outreach efforts by identifying underserved populations, and develop and implement a coordinated community response plan to address domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of family violence. This position will assist with general clerical duties (recording, filing, receptionist duties), and is responsible for data collection; does additional work as required. The position will report to the Director of the Family Justice Center. Essential functions of the position: Providing outreach, education, and presentations to the community on underserved populations and how to meet their cultural needs. Providing in-person and telephone interaction with clients of the Family Justice Center (Monday - Friday) as needed. Maintaining program and client confidentiality, including former clients at all times. Complete full intake, needs assessment, screening, and forms for clients of the FJC as needed. Assessing clients in order to determine their immediate needs. Review new / returning client's screening forms and make necessary on and off-site referrals. Provide training and technical assistance to partner agencies to improve their response to domestic violence and sexual assault cases. Stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in the field. Enter and record all intake demographics and forms into FJC database; data collection entry and accuracy. Advocate on client's behalf and help schedule on-site and off-site referrals as required. Communicate and interact positively with clients and staff. Maintain neat, accurate, and timely documentation. Complete mandatory worksheets documenting client interactions. Responsible for preparing and completing various forms, reports, correspondence, meeting notices, meeting minutes, or other documents. Co-facilitates, plans, prepares, distributes agendas, and records/reports minutes for the Coordinated Community Response Team/Sexual Assault Response Team meetings with community stakeholders and update the team on data. Educate domestic violence and sexual assault trainings to area businesses and organizations. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community stakeholders, including law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, healthcare providers, and social services agencies. Review and track lethality screenings for Johnson City Police Department. Attend community events such as education fairs and cultural based festivals to promote and raise awareness the services offered by the FJC. Participate/attend regularly scheduled local meetings in the community to promote continuous networking. Identify and assist underserved populations in the community. Maintains an orderly, tidy work area. Ensures all client areas are clean, organized and well maintained. Ensure the comfort of clients and their children while in the FJC. Disinfects and cleans common areas throughout the day. Keeps inventory of office supplies, donations and client comfort items (i.e. snacks and toys). Attends after hours events as needed. Aids with direction and training of interns as needed by Director. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with diverse personalities and viewpoints. Trauma informed care and sensitivity with confidentiality is essential in this position. Ability to work within deadlines. Multi-tasking skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable taking direction from supervisor and partner staff. Self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Team player with willingness to share projects and work cooperatively. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities (within the organization's overall mission) as our work is shaped by the dynamic needs of our clients. Attitude to flourish in a small office. Intimate familiarity with local community and its culture. Acceptable Experience and Training: High School diploma or equivalent required; position requires a degree or working toward a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work or closely related field. One (1) to three (3) years previous experience and/or training that preferably includes knowledge of the criminal justice system, victim advocacy, available community resources, fluency in another language (Spanish preferred) a plus, personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
