Your Team & Role


The Global Technology organization at Prudential is seeking a Vice President, Solution Architect. Reporting to the Chief Architect, this highly visible role will be a member of the Architecture Leadership Team. The Solution Architecture team aspires to accelerate the value of architecture across Global Technology by embedding architectural mindset and principles into engineering processes and talent. The Solution Architect will help advance the strategies of business and corporate functions around simplification and modernization of our technology stacks by focusing on the discipline of Enterprise Architecture (EA). The Solution Architect is responsible for deploying efficient enablers and solutions that are consumable and available within Prudential International Insurance Operations in Japan, and for providing Architecture consulting on large, business critical programs and or initiatives that have high business visibility, impact and/or risk and complexity. This role requires a unique combination of skills: strong knowledge of our businesses and business processes, strong technical acumen, and Enterprise Architecture expertise with emphasis on modern/current technologies and architecture patterns, strong ability to partner, educate, provide thought leadership and set technology direction across product and solution teams. As a technical expert, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude and a continuous learning focus to all that you do.


Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day


  • Ensure architecture standards and solution architecture designs align with security requirements.
  • Lead the solution architecture and design for the Prudential International Insurance Operations in Japan roadmap.
  • Bring an expert understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, provide technical guidance and leadership to team members and role-model our continuous learning culture by embedding learning and innovation in the day-to-day
  • Ensure significant end-to-end solutions align to all architectural principles and patterns. Evaluate implementation solutions and influence design solution architecture for alignment with EA patterns and standards (includes integrations, technology platforms, capacity, and performance management plan) and for alignment with business strategies and enterprise goals. Identify and classify tech debt where solutions deviate from alignment; influence teams to modernize and avoid tech debt.
  • Consult with product and solution teams on defining the solution implementation that aligns with modern/current Patterns and Reference Architecture; Co-create and evaluate reference implementations that can be leveraged by product and solution teams. Partner with product and solution teams to explain and evangelize patterns and reference architectures, lead the efforts to drive the adoption of architecture principles and patterns and influence implementation solutions in alignment with our modernization goals.
  • Evangelize and influence architectural change and adoption at an executive level
  • Demonstrate a talent mindset by evangelizing architecture transformation, influencing adoption of the transformation and driving modernization goals across product and solution teams.
  • Key thought leader, collaborator, and contributor, partnering across Architecture domains to define Architecture Patterns and Reference Architectures, adopting Architecture Principles to drive business strategies and enterprise goals.
  • Provide thought leadership for architecture strategy and vision
  • Oversee and evaluate architecture for significant sectors of the application portfolio
  • Ensure new technology and business initiatives are aligned to organization-wide target architecture, including review and approval of key design documents and approval of exceptions to standards
  • Effectively communicate with executive leadership; increase breadth of knowledge of business architecture across the enterprise; advise and educate on complex business architectural challenges and influence alignment of business goals with company goals and future vision

  • Expertise in infrastructure elements (server, storage, DB, network etc.)
  • Infrastructure Fundamentals:
  • Lead and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of the organization
  • Knowledge of business concepts tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field
  • Prioritization Skills: ability to manage multiple efforts across different areas with experience managing projects, budgets and schedules to successful completion
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems
  • Technical Acumen: deep understanding of programming concepts and a history of building and architecting a diverse set of applications with experience of the integration of applications to support business and technology processes and a deep understanding of the business processes that their solutions support.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills
  • Modern Architecture Thought Leadership: strong knowledge of EA and Solution Architecture frameworks and best practice with awareness of current trends for new architectural patterns and concepts and the ability to apply those patterns and trends to help achieve business-focused transformation outcomes
  • Solution Architect Fundamentals:
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Ability to model logical and abstracted architecture to create standard repeatable approaches for all solutions
  • 10+ years of technology leadership experience in Enterprise Architecture and Solution Architecture
  • Demonstrated experience with technology programs that span multiple countries; effectively managing execution across cultures, languages and time zones
  • Communication Skills: ability to clearly communicate the vision and target state and influence the adoption of enterprise architecture principles, patterns, reference architecture and standards to demonstrate progress on technology maturity
  • Influencing & Building Relationships: ability to build collaborative relationships and guide/influence engineering teams credibly and consistently to new methods of implementation
  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an on-going basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges
  • The ability to apply trends and technologies to solving current business problems

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $218,000.00 to $295,000.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
