Job Description

The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is seeking a Practice Manager for our newly opened Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic (SOCC). The SOCC plays an integral role in graduating veterinarians who understand and embrace their role in providing veterinary care across a broad economic continuum involving the entire spectrum of care.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, administrative and organizational skills. The person hired will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the SOCC to ensure effective and efficient processes and workflows. They are also responsible for promoting a positive customer experience and maintaining an operation that is welcoming to all who work, learn and receive services.

Operational Duties:
1. Ensures the practice runs smoothly on a daily basis
2. Oversees practice appointment schedule
3. Responsible for financial management of the practice including:
a. Development, in partnership with the finance team, of the annual budget
b. Ensures adherence to the budget
c. Manages and approves all expenditures for the practice
d. Financial reconciliation and reporting
4. Inventory management
5. Equipment management including ensuring regular preventive maintenance occurs
6. Facility management including:
a. ensuring a safe environment for clients, patients, faculty staff and students
b. housekeeping
c. repair of issues in partnership with VMC Facility Manager and FOD
7. Ensure compliance with university, college and VMC policies and procedures
8. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, and AVMA and AAHA standards

Human Resources Management:
1. Oversees clinician and staff schedule
2. Ensures compliance with all human resources policies and procedures
3. Manages personnel activities including:
a. Scheduling of clinicians and staff
b. Time and attendance approvals
c. Orientation and continuing education
d. Communication and team meetings
e. Recruitment of new personnel
f. Performance management

Customer Relations:
1. Ensures a positive customer experience through process improvement of customer service practices and procedures
2. Handles all customer concerns in a timely manner
3. Resolves customer issues

Education of Veterinary Students
1. Participate in training veterinary students financial and business management skills
2. Demonstrate the importance of practice management in veterinary practice

Physical Requirements

Subject to animal allergens, diseases, bites, waste, blood; exposure to biohazards, dust, chemicals. May be required to lift animals and equipment. May be exposed to sharps, rabies, irritant chemicals, zoonotic diseases, animal inflicted injuries and anesthetic gases.

Required Education

Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent education/experience.

Required Experience

Minimum of 5 years in a managerial role in veterinary and/or human hospital.

The targeted hiring range for this position is $67,700- $90,300 annually, commensurate with education and experience
