As our next Vegetation Management Forestry Specialist, you’re on your way to the open road and traveling the trails! As a Vegetation Management Forestry Specialist, you’ll keep communities informed about the trees and power lines, while ensuring safe delivery of their power and pursuing opportunities to develop sustainable habitat throughout the utility right-of-way. Responsibilities:
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area
  • Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customer
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned
  • Identify, inspect, and evaluate trees and brush along utility lines
  • Carry and utilize materials, tools, and equipment at work site
  • Analyzes and provides feedback on operational technology used in vegetation management
  • Coordinate the daily activities of Consulting Utility Foresters (CUF’s)
  • Provide technical assistance as needed to the field mobility team.
  • Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues
  • Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations
  • Support technology change management activities and may be required to provide education sessions
  • Help enforce on-the-job safety practices
  • Act as the intermediary between CNUC personnel and Utility Personnel
  • Train, supervise, and audit CUF’s
  • Service trucks and equipment. Keep trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion. Report the need for equipment and truck repairs to supervisor
Requirements:
  • Superior species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree growth rates
  • Utility Specialist certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Associate's Degree paired with 7 years' job related experience OR
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS application suite and other GIS utility applications, highly preferred.
  • ISA Certified Arborist Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Forestry Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related discipline paired with 4 years' job related experience OR
  • An ability to interact with customers, government agencies and other stakeholders as required or directed
  • Ability to read and follow maps
  • A State issued Driver’s License is required for this job assignment. A clear MVR is also required
  • Moderate travel and overnight stays throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, new Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and New York
  • High School Diploma (or GED) paired with 14 years' job related experience
