Job Description

Van Driver: Transports the elderly and disabled to and from medical and other personal appointments.



EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Maintains mileage, trip logs and other related records.
  • Picks up and transports elderly and disabled citizens to and from designated locations.
  • Delivers meals to the homebound.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follows emergency procedures in the event of accident or breakdown.
  • Ensures the van is properly maintained and available for use; reports and/or coordinates maintenance needs.
  • Maintains order while transporting passengers; monitors interactions, intervenes as necessary.
  • Assists passengers, as needed, in getting on and off the van.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical/drug screening.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • High School diploma and at least three years directly related experience, or an equivalent of education and experience.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or difficult terrain; recurring standing, stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 75 pounds and may require the occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 74 pounds. The work may require specific physical characteristic and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, and dexterity.

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or equipment such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shield.
