Job Description
The User Experience (UX) Designer takes charge in shaping the user journeys for our website and marketing initiatives, applying the principles of user-centered design to create intuitive, engaging experiences that align with Business and Research goals. As a champion of user engagement and interaction, the UX Designer conducts meticulous user research, thorough competitive analysis, insightful data analysis, and provides comprehensive written summaries that support the team’s mission to deliver impactful digital experiences and sophisticated brand-marketing solutions.


The UX Designer promotes collaboration, driving the design of our digital experiences. leads design activities and facilitates the collaborative design of digital products. Equipped with a deep understanding of current and emerging digital solutions, web technologies, and pertinent business processes, they are instrumental in mapping user journeys, profiling user personas, and creating high-fidelity mockups and prototypes.


Reporting to the Senior Digital Product Manager, the UX Designer works closely with Strategic Communications leadership and technical staff, as well as business stakeholders across the organization, at all levels. They use proven design methodologies to pinpoint priority issues and opportunities, leading design and planning workshops, crafting and showcasing designs, and conducting user tests for direct feedback.


Key Responsibilities And Essential Functions


  • Experience Design - Create visualizations, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to improve understanding of new processes and user experiences. Iterate on designs based on stakeholder, user, and customer feedback; conduct experiments, spikes, and other techniques to validate user impacts. Perform visual design through use of layouts, colors and illustrations to facilitate communication of new digital experiences and to enhance collaboration with product managers, development teams, and the users in order to drive innovations and improvements. Design digital experiences that are responsive and adaptive by leveraging knowledge of emerging technologies and UI frameworks. Create and propose new design guidelines to enhance branding, aesthetics, and communications across Jax. Design and communicate new models for user and web navigation, information architecture, interaction design, and usability.
  • User Research - Leads identification of and advocacy for user needs to the Strategic Communications team and strategic partners across JAX. Serves as an evangelist for the user and the ultimate external customer experience. Conduct various types of user research including direct interviews of internal users, external customers, and various stakeholders. Facilitate collaborative design thinking sessions to create business and developer understanding of new digital business opportunities. Perform analysis of user research and create appropriate design artifacts such as journey maps, user personas, empathy maps, storyboards, stakeholder maps, and relevant assessment deliverables.
  • Communication and Collaboration – Lead collaborative design activities to drive insights and consensus among Jax decision makers to support user centric digital experiences. Through storytelling, effectively communicate research goals, methods, findings and outcomes to anyone and everyone. Communicate, visually and other forms, recommendations that are going to be impactful and attainable. Incorporate business limitations and technical feasibility.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Experience with and ability to lead others in the use of tools and techniques to drive collaborative design, communications, prototyping, and visual representations of user experience.
  • 6+ years of experience as an experience designer, with at least 2 years in a role where the designer worked in a leadership capacity.
  • Design thinking, LeanUX or similar, certifications
  • Design thinking, LeanUX or similar, certifications showing coaching and practitioner level (or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to design exceptional user experiences.
  • Understanding of design thinking, LeanUX or similar collaborative design and development models
  • BS degree in the field of design, visual design, or digital/software design
  • Strong ability to synthesize divergent research and insights and communicate clearly to developers and product management.
  • Familiarity with tools and techniques to drive collaborative design, communications, prototyping, and visual representations of user experience.
  • Ability to lead small projects, coach designers and developers, and communicate with business leaders.
  • Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Masters in Fine Art (MFA) preferred.
  • Experience with tools and techniques to drive collaborative design, communications, prototyping, and visual representations of user experience.


Pay Range: $84,300 - $141,138
