Summary
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and supervision of an RN, midlevel practioner or physician, provides supportive care to the Urgent Care and MEUC patients. Performs technical tasks according to established protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of technical support patient care duties under the supervision of the onsite RN , physician, or mid-level practitioner, including, but not limited to: a. Ambulation of patients, as necessary, b. Cleaning, maintaining and preparing rooms between patients and procedures. c. Performing 12-lead EKG (no interpretation). Logs and files EKG’s appropriately. d. Basic CPR during Code Blue. e. Maintain isolation technique. f. Assisting with orthopedic appliances, including knee immobilizer, cervical collar, sling, crutches, air splint. g. Handling specimens, including respiratory secretions, throat culture, stool, and urine samples. h. Set up physician for procedures, including suturing and wound care i. Set up comfort measures for patients under the direction of the licensed professional such as warm blankets, water or food for patients. j. Assisting with patient transport to and from vehicle, if needed while seeking care at the facility as directed by a licensed professional. k. Disinfection, cleaning, re-sterilizing, and packaging dirty instruments using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), if applicable for site 2. Assists and performs special tasks as requested by medical or nursing staff following established protocols. 3. Completes computer order entry and answering of phones. Demonstrates appropriate telephone etiquette at all times and relays messages in a timely and appropriate manner. Is able to prioritize and maintain flow during busy times. 4. Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees. Maintains good working relationships among all nursing unit personnel and other hospital team members through appropriate communication. 5. Maintains an orderly and clean environment for patients and co-workers, transports and uses equipment appropriately. 6. Maintains patient comfort and privacy at all times. 7. Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain. 8. Promotes good public relations through positive interactions with patients, family, visitors, physicians, police, press, fire department personnel, and other hospital employees. 9. Communicates the need for unit supplies to maintain adequate and cost effective inventory of the unit’s equipment, stock and supplies. Assists with receiving, distributing and sorting supplies brought to the unit. Prepares requisitions and reports maintenance repairs. Checks to ensure accurate charging of patient supply items. 10. Completes the breakdown of charts after patient discharged. Assures that charts are completed prior to break down of record. 11. Performs Point of Care (POC) testing when ordered and maintains competency to perform such tests approved under CLIA-waived testing, if applicable to area. 12. Ensures completion of all daily, weekly, and/or monthly Quality Control requirements for POC testing, medications, and refrigerator logs 13. Documents vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, and weight and immediately notifies licensed personnel for abnormal findings. 14. Documents patient care interventions, including initial history of present illness (HPI) or chief complaint, allergies, medications, and history of past medical conditions/surgeries/ hospitalizations 15. Assists in ordering and following up on outside testing including imaging and laboratory studies 16. Participates in and maintains department compliance with all regulatory requirements (Federal, State, CMS, and Joint Commission) ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The preceding job statements describe the major duties and responsibilities performed by an employee in this position. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The specifications listed below are representative of the education and experience as well as knowledge, skill and ability required. .
  • Able to act independently and make decisions under stress as necessary.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year medical office assistant, certified nursing assistant,or current patient registration experience required. Two (2) years preferred.
  • Urine Drug Screen (UDS) and Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Certification required within three (3) months of hire , if applicable
  • Accessing and using internet and specific applications required to perform job duties
  • Certification as an Office Lab Assistant or Lab Assistant within 2 months of hire., if applicable to site (Urgent Cares only) Basic computer skills required for:
  • Accessing and navigating CTRH intranet for forms, policies and procedures
  • Accessing and entering data on organization wide software such as etime and Outlook email
