Job Description

Behavioral Medicine Center: Youth Murrieta (Full Time, Day Shift) -

The Unit Secretary-Adolescent and Child is responsible for performing the secretarial and clerical duties of patient care. Serves as department and/or unit receptionist. Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and forms. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service, safety, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation amount a culturally diverse workforce, patient, and visitor population. Performs other duties as needed.

High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum one year of college education preferred. Minimum one year of clerical experience preferred. Minimum one year of healthcare, psychiatric or chemical dependency experience preferred. Basic Life Support certification required.

Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital billing systems preferred. Knowledge of specific age groups preferred. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation in preparation of correspondence and reports. Demonstrates good computer and typing skills. Ability to input data into computer; ability to type 45+ wpm; good eye-hand coordination. Ability to speak clearly in person and over the phone; ability to write clearly and concisely; ability to listen well and interact appropriately with patients, visitors, employees and outside agencies. Ability to establish effective relationships with supervisor, other employees, patients (as appropriate) and outside agencies; ability to effectively intervene with agitated or hostile clientele. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to concentrate on several assignments simultaneously; ability to organize and prioritize; ability to work with limited supervision; ability to execute duties in an efficient manner with attention to detail; ability to receive and accurately carry out instructions. Able to distinguish colors, hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
