Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Unit Computing Manager for the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.


Among the key duties of the position are the following:


  • Ensures that service incidents, as documented in the information system of the unit, are addressed in a timely manner as deemed acceptable by the Director of the group. T
  • Responsible for completing technical projects and for providing consultation services to the various members of the Edward J Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy community.
  • Generates reports from the information system used by the department and generating reports from the current print management system.
  • Provide help desk and field support services to users within the Edward J Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and to perform administrative functions on servers within the EJB technical environment.
  • Maintains an active inventory of the technical assets in place.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of technical support experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Technical Certifications for cloud-based services, cybersecurity, or project management.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  • Good working knowledge of cybersecurity principals.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Firewall administration experience.
  • Five years of technical support experience in a higher education environment.
  • Course Management System support experience (Canvas).
  • Workstation and server hardening.
  • Centralized Patch Management.
  • Web hosting support experience.
  • Adobe Suite support experience.
  • Experience supporting statistical software such as R, Stata and SPSS .
  • Powershell scripting experience.
  • Imaging and system deployment.
  • ArcGIS support experience.
  • Experience with virtualization and containers.
  • Knowledge of database management.


Equipment Utilized
  • Cloning / Disk Imaging Software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of computer and printer hardware.


Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • This position will be expected to assist in after-hours support on rare occasions and will be required to assist when necessary in all phases of departmental activity at specific times during the year due to the fact that the department is small.
  • This position will be required to move workstation computers and other hardware on a regular basis. This equipment can weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • In addition, technical environments are constantly changing and it is expected that this position will support new and emerging technologies as they are implemented.
  • Although the focus of this position has been outlined in this document, other duties may be assigned as necessary in order to support projects and short-term initiatives.

  • The expectation of some coverage outside of regular business hours on a rotating basis.
