Required qualifications

  • 1-3 years of combined progressive experience at the NCAA collegiate and/or international level
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution/university or equivalent international university

Preferred qualifications

  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Commitment to athletic excellence in an academic environment
  • Playing / Coaching the Goaltender Position
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience as a student athlete
  • Coaching experience at the Division I level
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

About the Job

Responsibilities

The UMD Women's Hockey Assistant Coach will provide support to the head coach in maintaining a highly competitive and successful Division I Women’s Hockey program developed in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

  • Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in budget planning and management, scheduling of competitions and planning and executing team travel. Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student athletes to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Evaluate and recruit qualified student athletes to UMD whose athletic skills make them highly competitive and whose academic abilities make them good candidates for our student population.
  • Support the UMD Athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition; while furthering the strategic plan of UMD, and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist the head coach in all aspects of developing and maintaining a competitive intercollegiate sport program within the NCAA, WCHA Conferences, they will instruct and tech student athletes in fundamentals of sport technique and strategy, plan and execute practice and competition plans including the evaluation of opponents.
  • Serve as an integral part of achieving fund raising, budget and community service goals.
  • Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University and our Conference affiliations and the NCAA.

About the Department

Now in its 90th year of operation, the University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Intercollegiate Athletics continues to maintain one of the most competitive and well-balanced sports programs of its size in the country. Fourteen of the Bulldogs' 16 teams — baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer, softball, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball — are members of the 16-school NCAA Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey programs, meanwhile, are aligned with the eight-team National Collegiate Hockey Conference (which debuted in 2013-14) and the eight-school Western Collegiate Hockey Association, respectively.
