General Summary of Position
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates and documents patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and computerized report format.
- Performs ultrasound techniques and examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, and radiation therapy localization for treatment planning and minor surgical procedures.
- Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, and patient folders.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, and renal biopsies. Scans patient, marks patient's body, determines angle for puncture, assists as necessary, and maintains sterile technique.
- Generates computer images or film through automatic processing and evaluates quality.
- Selects and operates equipment as directed. Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Equivalent. required
- High School Diploma or GED required or
Experience
- 1-2 years 2 years diagnostic or ultrasound experience required
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR certification. required
- Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program (registry eligible) with certification in Diagnostic Sonography by ARDMS within 1 Year required and
- ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography Certification in Diagnostic Sonography by ARDMS within 1 Year preferred or
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
