Ultrasonographer


Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a valuable member of our team, who provides administrative and executive support and has the ability to interface with all levels of management throughout the hospital. Produces diagnostic exams, positions and transfers patients, provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis, selects and operates equipment. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in the Radiology Di agnostic Department may include the following but are not limited to:
  • Maintain and exhibit behavior that promotes confidence and trust.
  • Perform all Ultrasound Imaging techniques and examinations: Abdominal, Retroperitoneal, Obstetric and Gynecological, Carotid, Vascular Small Parts and Intracavity exams.
  • Perform diagnostic Ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician.
  • Days/Evenings. Rotating holidays as required.
  • On Call is required. Float to off-sites as needed.
  • Capable of working independently/unsupervised.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Carries supplies and moves equipment and imaging accessories.
  • License/Certification: Certification in Ultrasound or eligible.
  • 3+ years of ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Graduate of a program in Ultrasound Technology.
  • This position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or positioning and transferring of patients.
  • Computer knowledge preferred.
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • ARDMS OR ARRT Certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

  • The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
