Job Description
Overview:
The UI Designer plays a key creative role in designing, maintaining, and evolving VEIC’s digital portfolio. This role will develop front-end code and intelligent design systems across VEIC’s digital products while partnering with project leads and Sr. Developers to think creatively and conceptualize design solutions with accessibility and aesthetics in mind. This role is part of a high-production team, passionate about building high-quality, modern, front-end solutions that speak to complex problems through innovation and applying development best practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with developers and agencies/vendors on projects or integration.
  • Build storyboards, lo-and-high-fidelity designs, wire frames, clickable prototypes, and designs to conceptualize and convey project plans to clients and management.
  • Translate designs (wireframes, mockups, prototypes) into web experiences optimized for a full range of modern devices using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Create overall concepts for the user interface and experiences within the various VEIC websites/applications, customer portals, and mobile applications, ensuring all interactions are intuitive and easy for customers.
  • Define and document website styles.
  • Routinely analyze existing sites and applications for adherence to current brand and accessibility standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor and research emerging technologies, client behavior and site analytics to inform innovation opportunities and advocate for adoption internally.
  • Support ongoing design needs.
  • Work with senior developers to ensure that the website is accessible, functional, and visually appealing.
  • Research and analyze user requirements.
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop digital user interfaces, leveraging existing design language, design system components and best practices when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and advise on new technologies, user experience standards, and resources.
Qualifications:
  • Strong command of color theory, composition, and typography
  • Understanding of web standards, including WCAG for web accessibility, and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive design.
  • Ability to identify and resolve process inefficiencies.
  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator and other Creative Suite products.
  • 4+ years of work experience in interactive and/or user experience design or similar combination of skills.
  • Experience creating storyboards and site mapping.
  • Ability to document design best-practices and digital brand standards, and to offer constructive critique with proposed recommendations for changes, when necessary.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact, communicate and present ideas and receive direction and feedback.
  • Team player who is self-motivated, driven, open to new challenges, and can “think on their feet" while “doing what it takes".
  • Experience writing HTML, CSS, Javascript, and CMS administration.
  • Working knowledge of web development practices and processes, code sharing and management, information architecture, and data architecture.
  • Desire and ability to stay abreast of industry technical trends and innovations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral), organization and planning skills.
  • Must provide a portfolio of material that demonstrates experience designing and coding responsive interfaces.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to identify and implement the best allocation of resources to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Web Development, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Software Engineering or a related field of study) or similar combination of skills and experiences.
