Job Description

The Area Manager, Supply Chain Transportation, is accountable for the efficient oversight of daily operations, workload management, and compliance within a transportation support team and external 3rd party transportation providers. This position drives operational, financial, and service results by providing guidance and support to associates. The Area Manager collaborates closely with various internal departments to optimize operational efficiency, enhance delivery performance, and minimize costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise Inbound Transportation Support Team: Direct and manage the activities of the inbound transportation support team, ensuring effective workload allocation, performance monitoring, and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Prepare Reports and Presentations: Compile and analyze data, prepare reports on transportation performance and present findings to management. Highlight areas of success and improvement opportunity
  • Ensure Compliance: Manage compliance with transportation regulations, industry standards, and company policies, conducting regular audits and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and Mentor Associates: Provide leadership, coaching, and training to associates, fostering a high-performance culture, and supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Minimize Costs: Identify cost-saving opportunities within the transportation network, support the negotiation of favorable rates with carriers and vendors, and implement measures to reduce transportation-related expenses.
  • Enhance Delivery Performance: Analyze transportation operations to identify opportunities for improving delivery performance, including on-time delivery, transportation cost and time in transit.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Oversee 3rd Party Transportation Providers: Build and maintain strong relationships with external transportation providers, ensuring they meet operational requirements and comply with service level agreements.
  • Achieve Operational and Financial Targets: Drive results by establishing and implementing strategies to achieve operational, financial, and service objectives, closely monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and taking corrective actions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Internal Departments: Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as customs, distribution center, and outbound transportation to streamline processes, enhance operational efficiency, and optimize overall supply chain performance.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify process inefficiencies and develop initiatives to optimize transportation operations by leveraging technology solutions and best practices.

Requirements

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience
  • High business acumen, leadership, planning and organization
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience with a proven track record of managing teams preferably in a fast paced retail distribution environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills , leading by example, interacting with associates, management and customers ensuring maximum satisfaction from each.
  • Required high school diploma or GED, Preferred bachelors degree in a related field like transportation and logistics management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Highly organized analytical thinker; Ability to analyze raw data to make decisions and drive utilization and productivity efficiencies
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines
  • Experience with TL, LTL, Intermodal and an overall understanding of the transportation industry
  • Excellent leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and develop a team.
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal DOT regulations

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance. Team lift should be used for lifting any items weighing greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • Bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and reaching heights on an intermittent basis.
  • Have the ability to work off shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $72,000-$84,700 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 120 hours per year and paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law. The Company observes two (2) Company paid holidays. Associates earn up to 64 hours as additional Floating Holidays.
