The Senior Transportation Analyst will manage the data collection, data analysis, and reporting activities for Saint-Gobain Transportation. This position will develop data collection strategies by transportation category to compile the appropriate business critical information across all business units. Most importantly, the analyst will draw inferences from the analysis to aid the Category Managers, Management and BU Supply Chain teams in the development of cost reduction opportunities related to pricing and carrier network strategy and optimization studies. This position will administer the activities and transactions of the Purchasing function utilizing e-tools and supporting the purchasing organization in the procurement of transportation services, price management and carrier selection.
Requires the ability to proactively think and act independently to develop and deploy appropriate data collection tools to gather the appropriate information from the businesses to support the sourcing and management activities for the transportation categories. The analyst must be highly skilled technically (proficient in MS Access, Excel, database software and programming, Tableau, as well as expertise in TMS and ERP systems, such as SAP, Manhattan Assoc.) and be able to use technical skills to solicit and format the correct information to develop and communicate possible sourcing strategies to the category team. Highly motivated with willingness to learn new tools and technologies to further develop group capabilities.
Technical skills must be coupled with general business and transportation acumen in order for the analyst to understand the meanings of the data and present it accordingly to drive the strategy of a sourcing project or a category management initiative. Reporting developed and maintained by the analyst will be communicated to the highest level of business and delegation management; process methodology and credibility are critical components of the position. The analyst will need to manage deadlines and timelines to keep projects on track.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain monthly KPI reports for transportation categories; collect and manage data from external (carriers) resources as well as internal (purchasing managers and business ERP systems) resources.
- Manage transportation RFP events using e-Tools. Activities include RFP setup, carrier communications, business unit collaboration to complete analysis and identify optimal award scenarios.
- Track and maintain transportation contracts and rate addendums; develop standardized reporting on across businesses and categories. Develop and maintain carrier reports, scorecards, related carrier data.
- Proactively identify improvement opportunities, develop processes to drive self-sufficiency for the category managers
- Develop and maintain reports related to business unit and carrier compliance to bid events, highlighting areas of opportunity to ensure business units are capturing maximum amount of savings
- Manage data collection activities and model various sourcing strategies based on the data collection; present and communicate analysis to category team; support RFP activities, support implementation of contracts (price management, KPI tracking…)
- Assist category managers in the tracking and communication of market intelligence related to truckload
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills, as well as effective presentation skills.
- Experience in transportation industry with a focus on construction building products is highly preferred.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions or recommendations and align decisions with strategies. Considers the impacts of decisions on other parts of the organization.
- Proficiencies Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Access, and Tableau. Strong systems aptitude and analytical skills required. Manhattan Assoc. TMS and SAP ERP experience is highly desirable. Experience with VBA is preferred.
- B.S. in industrial engineering, supply chain, logistics, business or related field, or progressive experience in purchasing field. Master's degree in Business is preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to < 10% of time in support of projects and supplier relationship management/issue resolution.
- Experience with working in a matrix organization would be beneficial.
- 3-5 years of supply chain experience or related field; heavy concentration in analysis work and process development.
