Job Summary


** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul. This position will have the option to telework; the employee will be required to complete a telework agreement.

This position exists to manage statewide transit planning. This work supports Greater Minnesota’s public transit networks as they adapt to 21st century, post-pandemic needs and travel patterns. It’s a unique opportunity to have a big impact on the future of travel within Greater Minnesota.

Duties include:

  • Develop long-range transit plans and coordinate the implementation of transit plans upon completion of each update.
  • Provide professional planning technical expertise and analysis related to other major planning efforts including the Transit Program.
  • Organize and coordinate the involvement of the public, interest groups, and other state, regional and local agencies in setting policies for transit investment.
  • Coordinate integration of best practices and current research on rural and small urban public transit within MnDOT processes.

Periodic (10%) travel within Minnesota is required to meet with stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience with planning principles, methods, and techniques sufficient to develop major statewide plans.
  • Knowledge of state and federal program laws, policies, and regulations related to statewide and metropolitan planning.
  • Experience leading planning studies or complex planning processes.
  • Experience with statistics and spreadsheets to analyze and display trends and conditions.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or graduate certificate in urban planning, public policy, transportation or related field.
  • Professional planning or policy experience working in government at the metropolitan or state level.
