Training Editor (Shooter As Needed)

BuildWitt has an immediate opening for an experienced video editor who can use their skills to make construction training videos pop. The demand for BuildWitt Training has grown since its launch and we need to expand the team. Our team produces a wide range of content intended to help educate and train laborers, operators, foremen, and many other roles in the “Dirt World”. In addition to technical job skills we also make videos teaching personal development and soft skills. We are always looking to improve our productions and welcome the person in this role to contribute where they can. We like to keep things light so a good sense of humor will go a long way. Our approach has been to produce short, easily digestible videos that make up lesson plans (for example “How to Operate a Dozer Level 1”). As the editor, your main responsibility will be to create well crafted lesson videos based on the scripts provided by the content team. We’re looking for someone who has proven editing chops and is eager to take on the challenge of making training content interesting. The ideal editor will be willing to join the team in pre-pro to help execute a project as efficiently as possible, saving time and frustration on the back end. We shoot specific b-roll whenever possible but some lessons will require pulling shots from our archive of existing footage. The editor will be expected to work with our existing media manager to become familiar with our footage library and help plan and pull required content from the archive as needed. The main focus of this role will be editing, but there will be opportunities to help shoot. It is not the expectation that the editor will attend all shoots, but there may be times when the editor is asked to help with certain projects. A familiarity with other aspects of production is a big plus.

How you will get to help us do that in this role:

• Actively participate in pre-production
• Insert humor where appropriate
• Work with director to come up with new ideas communicating information in creative ways
• Help with shoots occasionally
• Bring a proactive, positive energy to projects and team meetings
• Help manage media and storage
• Work with team to organize upcoming shoots and manage logistics
• Edit footage based on scripts provided by content team
• Help create shot-lists and storyboards for lesson scripts with director and videographer

The skills you possess:

• Animation and graphic skills are a big plus
• Great attitude
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere and After Effects or similar software. Premiere is a must.
• Detail oriented with ability to organize projects and media.
• Curious/creative mind
• Ability to follow directions and take notes from leads.
• Ability to adapt to our workflows.
• Strong editing skills (send reel & work samples)
• Solid understanding of color correction and grading.
• Strong passion for storytelling

Is there any travel? How much? Yes. Homebase is Nashville and there will be shoots in Nashville but we also work with many partners around the US. Sometimes we shoot training content at their facilities. The editor will be asked to join the team on some shoots in the field when schedules and workload allow.. 80% Nashville based, 20% Travel.

Is this position required to be local to Nashville? Yes. Ability to be physically present at the Nashville office (Germantown) a few times a week is a requirement.

Who does this person report to? Who will be doing the interview? The Training Editor will report to the Director of Training Videos as part of the Product Team.
