This position is an hourly position averaging 29 hours a week, with no state benefits and will be working in the office.

Job Duties

The Hampton Roads District is seeking an Engineer Traffic to conduct and review complex traffic engineering studies and plans including, but not limited to traffic signal studies and modifications, roadway and pedestrian safety, capacity analyses, interchange modification, and quantifying the impacts of development.

  • Coordinate and balance multiple simultaneous reviews while meeting applicable deadlines
  • Assist in the review of studies and provide helpful comments in order to improve transportation operations, traffic safety, and operational capacity
  • Proactively identify transportation improvement concepts during study development

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and standards
  • Experience in developing and/or reviewing studies involving traffic operations, traffic control devices, roadway and pedestrian safety, capacity analysis, and the impacts of development
  • Considerable experience analyzing data, developing recommendations, and making presentations
  • Experience analyzing traffic related data
  • Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, SIDRA, VDOT Junction Screening Tool, and Trip Generation
  • Experience in reviewing crash reports, developing crash countermeasures, and the use of Crash Modification Factors
  • Skilled in the use of computers and familiarity or ability to learn traffic analysis software applications such as Highway Capacity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree
