Job Responsibilities


Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, the Fort Mill Welcome Center is strategically located at I-77 Southbound. This Welcome Center offers many great FREE services including but not limited to: travel information; brochures on exciting destinations in South Carolina; travel itinerary planning; and information on our beautiful State Parks. Job Purpose


To manage Fort Mill Welcome Center and its staff. Ensure visitors receive excellent customer service through front-line information service and promotion of South Carolina destinations to influence current and future visitor travel plans, thereby increasing visitor spending in South Carolina.


Position Duties


  • Manages a state Welcome Center by ensuring the Welcome Center Program is implemented and resources are managed efficiently and effectively. Follows and implements all processes and procedures outlined by agency, program, and operations procedures.
  • Manages external partner relationships including destinations, accommodations, CVBs, Chambers and SCATR staff. Represents SCPRT in a professional and positive manner to all potential partners.
  • Ensures quality customer service to visitors. Participates in and leads customer service trainings. Leads and trains center staff in providing quality customer service and upselling to increase visitor sign in rate, reservations and room nights. Develops and evaluates staff’s product knowledge and front-line marketing skills.
  • Leads, supervises, trains, and motivates staff through effective and consistent communication, coaching, mentoring, training and motivating techniques. Promotes a team atmosphere.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other Welcome Center Program staff including other managers, other center staff and Central Office staff to ensure program goals and objectives are met. Encourage open communication and practice and promote teamwork among all Visitor Service staff.
  • Practice and promote teamwork within Sales and Marketing Office and throughout the Agency. Serves as a liaison to business and governmental groups, state industry, etc. Participates in consumer shows, festivals, events, or special projects, as requested. Abide by the Agency Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains healthy and positive working relationships with onsite internal and external partners and staff to ensure a safe, healthy and happy environment and experience for guests, staff, and contractors.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


A bachelor's degree in business administration, communication, marketing or closely related field and two (2) years of relevant experience in customer service, public relations or public contact, and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience, supervisory and customer service experience.


Additional Requirements


  • Works 37.5 hour rotation with weekends and holidays. Job includes extensive walking and standing. Must have computer skills. Some overnight training-related travel required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills. Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills and budget management. Daily duties include standing, walking, regular travel in and out of state by automobile and public conveyance, lifting up to 35 lbs. Operate a personal computer, multi-media information system and telecommunication equipment.


Preferred Qualifications


  • National Tourism Certification is preferred
  • Welcome Center experience is preferred.

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
