Title I Reading Specialist: One Year Position

Bresnahan Elementary SchoolIs seeking a Reading Specialist who will use their experience to develop and improve reading instruction in a tiered-support model. Newburyport is beginning a 5-year plan to increase reading achievement in grades K-3. This is an exciting opportunity to partner with consultants, researchers, and universities to implement scientifically-based reading research in practical ways. The Reading Specialist will be an active part of the Title I Reading Team working directly with staff and students to implement these changes.
The Reading Specialist will support students directly with learning to read by providing intervention through implementing school-wide practices. and Responsibilities: Teach reading for students in need of Tier II or III intervention in small group instruction.Collaborate with the Title I Reading Team to analyze data, identify student needs, and determine Tier II interventionsBuild community, teacher and student relationships. Collaborate with the Literacy Leadership Team in grade level professional development and data meetings Skills and Qualifications: Massachusetts Reading Specialist license; masters degree in Reading or other related subjectSEI endorsement or ELL license 3 or more years experience and demonstrated expertise as an elementary teacher and/or reading specialist Demonstrated success in differentiated instruction for diverse learners and improving student achievement Experience analyzing and responding effectively to student data Have a background in structured literacy and research-based literacy instruction Show commitment to expanding educational opportunities for students
