Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Therapeutic Visitation Clinician at The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.


The Therapeutic Visitation Program provides supervised visitation facilitated by a licensed mental health practitioner for the purpose of preventing or repairing damage to the parent–child relationship and helping parents to understand and respond to their child’s emotional or physical needs in an appropriate manner. The clinician provides structured interactive guidance on parent-child communication with a focus on positive bonding & nurturing skills.


The clinician is part of a larger program that works collaboratively to facilitate the return of children that have been separated from their parents for a variety of reasons. All team members working within these programs are expected to maintain the belief that a family is the primary nurturing environment of a child. It is expected that the program clinician will work to establish a partnership with referred families to empower them toward solving their own problems. All team members presume that every person is capable of growth and change. The clinician will work with referring agencies and the court system to communicate progress or lack thereof and to make necessary recommendations for future or alternate services needed.


Clinical


  • Participate in play therapy supervision monthly as needed
  • Engage the client in a cooperative problem solving, utilizing empathy and good listening skills. Provide parenting support when appropriate
  • Refer client, as needed, to specialists and/or community resources as needed
  • Complete the identified interventions
  • Take responsibility for improving clinical skills and utilizing supervision process
  • Provide transportation for clients to visitation sessions as needed
  • Make clinical recommendations for services and case direction
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by law
  • Supervise visits according to level of supervision required by DCP&P caseworker, the exception being emergency bathroom breaks.
  • Provide clinical guidance to the multidisciplinary court/DCP&P/family team in determining how to meet the children’s needs
  • Schedule and maintain one hour of weekly individual clinical supervision with your qualified supervisor.
  • Maintain an active caseload of 5-6 families with a minimum of 72 hours of direct face-to-face contact per month. Part time employees will have a prorated number of families and direct face-to-face contact hours depending on number of hours worked.
  • In concert with the family, create a Treatment Plan that addresses strengths, needs and intervention strategies
  • Contact referral source and client within 5 business days of receipt of referral
  • Available a minimum of 3 evenings per week


Administrative


  • Prepares necessary reporting documents for courts & referring agencies in a timely manner
  • Must be physically able to lift small children and car seats
  • In order to ensure the health and wellness of the employees and the visitors of the YGMC and all locations where YGMC operates business, in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed on your current job description, the following are additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time where appropriate during the COVID-19 pandemic or any pandemic/communicable disease where the duties are appropriate. These additions are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned and required as needed:
  • A safe driving record
  • The employee may be assigned to areas other than their normally assigned area as needed to meet organizational needs. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, being assigned areas to count people, help direct flow of traffic in an area, being assigned to a specific area to assist with doors, and any other duty as needed by the organization.
  • Directing Members/Visitors in areas where the employee is both normally and not normally assigned
  • Document activity and interaction between family members during visits and provide copies to DCPP caseworkers within 5 business days of visit.
  • Enhanced cleaning in areas where the employee is not directly/normally assigned as well as normally assigned areas. All employees are expected to assist in and support the efforts of the YGMC when it comes to health and wellness for the facility and other locations where the YGMC conducts business. All employees are expected to wipe machines, screens, computers, phones or anything that is used after they use it, all employees are expected to wash their hands on a frequent basis (recommended every 30 minutes if possible), and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.
  • The clinician must possess Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field and be license eligible in New Jersey to practice counseling.
  • Attend required agency meetings and trainings
  • Ensure all required maintenance is performed on assigned agency vehicle
  • Temperature Taking/Wellness Questionnaire Taking Assignments
  • Maintain a mutually supportive atmosphere among team members and throughout the agency
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Complete miscellaneous projects or tasks as assigned by management
  • Must demonstrate a high level of cultural competence, sensitivity and responsiveness
  • Ability to relate to and engage multi-problem families
  • Monitors and evaluates client outcome measurement results and provides ideas for continual quality of service improvement
  • All other duties as assigned as it relates to COVID-19 or other communicable disease and/or pandemic.
  • Maintains level of service for program & submission of monthly statistics
  • Must possess strong communication, writing and time management skills
  • Have a thorough knowledge of Monmouth County services
  • Participates as part of a working collaborative team
  • Maintain client files and materials in timely manner and an organized format consistent with YMCA and COA standards
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with referring Agency liaisons, personnel and community agencies involved in the treatment process for each family in order to ensure coordination of treatment and promote positive program functioning
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license and a safe driving record with vehicle availability
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the Electronic Health Record
  • Participate in Strong Kids Campaign
