Job Description
Examples of Work

Implement the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat) for Nebraska which includes conducting surveys, organizing volunteers, collating and analyzing data, and uploading data to the NABat portal.
Conduct acoustic surveys and mist/harp surveys across the state as needed for various projects (research and habitat management) and analyze acoustic data on a regular basis. Coordinate with partners including state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community science volunteers as needed.
Answer questions from the public and participate in educational presentations/activities. Surveys may require travel across the state involving multiple days on the road. Most work will take place outdoors, sometimes involving long hours in inclement weather. Perform related work as required.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science or equivalent experience.
OTHER: Driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of bat natural history and ecology, especially for species in the Great Plains region. Ability to collect and analyze acoustic bat data is a priority.
Experience using mist nets and harp traps along with proper bat handling is strongly preferred as well as advanced experience with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Nebraska wildlife species and ecology, and experience with ArcGIS are preferred.
