Job Description
Work From Anywhere in the U.S. - Remote Friendly Role - Chicago/Midwest Preferred


Level Ex is seeking a Temporary Medical Editor responsible for ensuring the overall editorial quality of communications by providing medical editing for accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, structure, and style. The Medical Editor will work closely with members of the MLR, Medical, Design, and QA/Release teams to ensure deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy. Qualifications and core responsibilities are noted as follows.


$50+/hour


  • 20-30 hrs/week
  • 3 month timeframe
  • Availability from 9am-5pm Central Time required


Qualifications


  • Excellent knowledge of grammar, usage, and medical writing style guidelines (such as the AMA Manual of Style)
  • Ability to prioritize projects, collaborate on team projects, and coordinate and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and meet project goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat applications
  • Effective attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Familiarity with general scientific and medical concepts and ability to grasp more complex scientific and medical applications
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to identify key issues and creatively and strategically overcome challenges
  • Bachelor's degree in the life sciences, journalism, English, or a related field with 3-4 years of progressive professional medical or science editing experience and/or relevant medical background with strong editing skills
  • Ability to acquire relevant information from a variety of sources (eg, published style manuals, journal guidelines, and literature searches) and maintain accurate records of sources
  • Ability to think analytically and to effectively plan, prioritize, and execute assigned tasks
  • Experience with Pharmaceutical and Medical Device MLR review processes strongly preferred
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills


Core Responsibilities


  • Attend project status meetings to keep abreast of upcoming or in-progress editorial projects
  • Edit/deliver clear, factual, and exceptional medical content while meeting project specifications
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned
  • Consistently meet project deadlines
  • Ensure that all deliverables meet the American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style, client corporate and brand style guidelines, agency style guidelines
  • Proofread final files against digital assets to ensure complete accuracy
  • Assist colleagues with editorial problem-solving, troubleshooting, and brainstorming
  • Proofread to ensure appropriate and accurate flow, structure, grammar, and content in edited works
