Major Duties
Under general supervision of Data Center and Telecom Lead, the Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for maintaining CSUN telecommunication and VoIP infrastructure. The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day operations and related projects for all on-premises and cloud VoIP infrastructure for calling, interfacing, license maintenance, trouble tickets, voicemail and physical/virtual telephone line provisioning/deprovisioning, 911/e911 record keeping, call center software administration, call center scripting and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration and programming of CSUN’s telecom hardware infrastructure for calling, trunking, and routing, digital to analog gateways, campus emergency and elevator phones.

  • Works with off-campus vendors for troubleshooting VoIP related hardware and software issues.

  • Works closely with the team lead to manage work orders and trouble calls for the telecom team and helps prioritize them for timely resolution.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Engineering or a job-related field.

  • Additional qualifying technical training and applied experience may be substituted for required education, on a year-for-year basis.

  • Three years of full-time, progressively field-related experience required. Experience creating and editing telecommunications drawings and working with application monitoring and performance tools, preferred.

  • Experience with administration of Microsoft servers, hardware and software, including system modification, installations, evaluation, and system development.


  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of: operating systems, networking and telecommunications software design, data processing equipment and its capabilities. Working knowledge of Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity and Entrado.

  • Ability and specialized skills to: design, modify, install, evaluate hardware and system software; analyze data situations; reason logically and creatively; identify problems and draw conclusions; develop methods of processing data with computers; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

  • Classification / grade: 0410 / Operating Sys Analyst/2

  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4678 - $8500 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4678 - $11,547 per month.

  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.

  • REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
