Under limited supervision this position will provide team and agency support by performing moderately complex and technical work to order and maintain telecom voice and wireless services for all State agencies. On a daily basis, this position will assist/advise State agencies and political subdivisions by reviewing, defining, analyzing and designing their telecommunications needs to make informed decisions regarding voice and wireless services and equipment. They will work as a project team member or act as agency liaison on complex telecommunications forecasting design and implementation of system and major projects, and place orders with vendors for equipment, local VOIP service, and wireless service and perform basic programming functions. Additionally, they will assist and direct service providers to assure timely resolution of system or service malfunctions. This position will also coordinate directly with financial personnel of the Division to assure that facilities and services ordered and installed are properly accounted for and billed. Vendor equipment literature and marketing materials may be reviewed, and recommendations made to agency management. At times this position will require the physical installation, removal or troubleshooting of equipment. This necessitates the candidate have the ability to work with hand tools, electronic test equipment, and the ability to lift 40 pounds unassisted. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: An associate's or similar two-year technical degree in communications/electronic equipment or related discipline of study OR equivalent work experience (3 years) using, maintaining, repairing, modifying, and testing communications/electronic equipment.
PREFERRED: The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to work with various pieces of telecommunications equipment through documented telecommunications technical training or full-time work experience in a telecommunications environment.
OTHER: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.
Knowledge of telecom terminology and practices is helpful but not needed if there is a desire to learn unique tasks.
Skill in listening to and understanding information and/or instructions received to perform diverse tasks. Sound oral and written communications. Customer service skills with internal/external customers, vendors and service providers. Ability to learn and apply agency policies and guidelines pertinent to telecom voice and wireless industry standards. Ability to maintain workorder records and documentation. Communicate with agency staff and customers; operate office equipment such as personal computers, scanners, photocopiers. Be able to maintain confidentiality; ability to utilize problem solving, decision making and reasoning skills to verify information, self-manage and answer customer questions; strong organizational skills and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks; time management on a daily basis to meet monthly deadlines.
Ability to work independently or with a team; to work with various pieces of telecommunications equipment through documented telecommunications technical training or full-time work experience in a telecommunications environment.
