Job Description

Teen Camp Group Counselor (13–15-year-olds) – Traditional Camp

Minimum qualifications: At least 21 years of age with a clean driving record, and one year’s experience
leading activities with young teens. Must enjoy working with youth of all backgrounds and be
passionate about working outdoors and engaging with campers. All staff must be CPR/First Aid
Certified.

  • Weekly Salary Range: $560 - $625 (DOE and Certifications, plus additional stipends for
overnights)
  • Possible Housing
  • Commitment: Mid-June through end of August.

Preferred qualifications: Previous camp work or 1-2 years of direct experience in leading activities for
teens. Lifeguard certified, or willingness to be certified as a lifeguard (we will train).

Camp Beech Cliff welcomes applicants for the position of Teen Camp Group Counselor. This counselor
facilitates activities for our teen campers who elect to be in the LIT Program (ages 13-15 years). The LIT
Program encourages campers to recognize themselves as leaders and prepares them to make the
transition to be Counselors-in-Training the following year. The LIT counselor

  • Creates a positive group dynamic and activities to develop leadership, creativity, teambuilding,
and enthusiasm for community
  • Assist with on-camp programs (boating, swimming, archery, challenge course, and many
more!)
  • Establish effective mentoring relationships between Teen Campers and younger campers

All staff must adhere to the health and safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept of Human
Services Youth Camps Division, and standards for accreditation with the American Camping
Association.

Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp counselor is challenging,
demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle sacrifices
may have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology during the camp
day. Sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide youngsters the opportunity to grow,
learn to positively relate to others, establish life-long values, and increase their appreciation of the
natural world.
