Position Overview:
Avatnus Federal, recently acquired by QinetiQ US, has a rewarding opportunity to join a high-visibility, high impact strategic communications team supporting the Department of Transportation's Office of the Chief Information Officer, as well as the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and the Office of Public Affairs. Work on creative initiatives like the Airline Customer Service Dashboard, Cyber Strategic Campaigns, 508 Compliance Roadmap, and Transportation.gov content development. Quickly growing strategic communications team needs detailed-oriented tech writers to contribute to our innovative solutions and mission support.
Responsibilities:
  • Technical Marketing Literature
  • Correspondences and Briefings – The creation of complete time sensitive, high quality technical reports for submittal to Congress that satisfy legislative requirements, using consistent Agency language and tone.
  • Online Help Instructions
  • Magazine Articles
  • Providing content support for customer education materials including print and web-ready versions
  • Newsletters
  • Reports / Papers – Providing scientific and non-scientific technical reports such as: guidance circulars, reports, manuals (e.g., Policy, Engineering, Safety, Research), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), correspondence, briefings, information memoranda, action memoranda, publications, training materials, press releases, and white papers.
  • Other documentation support and development may include, but are not limited to the following examples:
    • Market Research Reports
    • Meeting Minutes
    • Surveys and Transcriptions
    • Newsletters
    • User and Reference Manuals
    • Online Help Instructions
    • Reviewer’s Guides and Implementation Guides

  • User and Reference Manuals
  • Technical Review - Proofreading support services typically include coordination for technical review. This process may involve document coordination with technical points of contact and other peers will be required for all documents. The coordination may take several reviews with management and technical staff and a system to track these items through various edits and reviews

  • Product Catalogs
  • Editing, researching, and tracking change management communications including providing feedback, researching issues, and tracking approval throughout the federal approval chain.
  • Reviewer’s Guides and Implementation Guides
  • Writing relevant DOT technology, cybersecurity, etc, articles for internal distribution
  • Technical Reports or Publications – High-quality technical reports based on original data collected, which may also include data from third parties; high-quality technical reports are mode specific deliverables which may reach external audiences such as the transportation industry at large or the public.
  • Training Materials – developing, updating, and supporting training materials.
  • Coordinating events for OCIO educational initiatives such as records management, cyber security, etc.
  • Providing content support for OCIO S1, and other DOT offices reports and customer-facing materials including PPTs, digital graphics, posters, banners, and other communications material.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a technical writer
  • The status of applicable COVID-19 vaccination requirements under Executive Order 14042 are subject to change depending on applicable court orders and the course of ongoing litigation. Candidates may be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or have an approved exemption
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with federal government environment preferred
