Job Summary

CU Boulder Recreation Services encourages applications for a Team Sports Coordinator! This role is responsible for leadership collaboration and support of the comprehensive Team Sports program, with a primary area of focus on Sport Clubs and limited support of Intramural Sports. The Team Sports Coordinator will provide leadership and planning, implementation of risk management strategies, fiscal oversight, development of policies and procedures, and the hiring, training and development of staff. This position also works with internal and external partners, and provides program oversight to ensure compliance and operational success. The person in this role must be able to manage ambiguous situations confidently while working independently with limited oversight.

Who We Are

CU Boulder Recreation Services is a welcoming, valued, campus resource that promotes healthy lifestyles through high-quality, accessible, facilities and experiences. This student-fee-funded unit features a student-led CUSG Recreation Board and a diverse team of professional experts to help meet evolving recreational needs and support student engagement and success. Recreation Services oversees the LEED Platinum main campus Student Rec Center, a building with over 300,000 square feet of recreation and fitness activity space, as well as a satellite recreation center at Williams Village, outdoor basketball courts, a challenge ropes course, and eight turf and grass fields around campus. Throughout these facilities, members of the CU community can engage with a variety of programs that include ice skating, indoor rock climbing, intramural and club sports, yoga, aquatics and so much more.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Administration

  • Meet with club leadership and members regularly to discuss progress, challenges, and disciplinary matters.
  • Work closely with Recreation events and facilities staff in coordinating all facets of club events and practices.
  • Supportive assessment and management of area challenges. Uses university procedural knowledge as well as area expertise to address and resolve pertinent issues primarily independently. Communicates resolutions clearly with appropriate parties.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of officer training and growth sessions.
  • Ensure assigned clubs complete all required tasks for successful club operation to include student eligibility, fundraising, travel, and special events.
  • Responsible for the harmonious development, management, and implementation of the Team Sports Program.
  • Handle Sport Club equipment and uniform inventories.
  • Assist assigned clubs int he coordination of special events and tournaments.

Supervision/Oversight

  • Work with Student Affairs Human Resources.
  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and ensuring pay for all student employees and club coaches.
  • Directly supervise 40+ contract and volunteer coaches and have shift-related supervision responsibilities of student program supervisors and officials.
  • Offer continued oversight of employee status and address any arising issues.

Fiscal Management

  • Assist clubs with fiscal responsibilities of travel expenses including lodging and transportation needs (i.e., airfare, charter buses, vehicle rentals).
  • Track budgets (income and expenditures) for assigned sport clubs.
  • Work with clubs to collect receipts and reconcile post-travel expenses.
  • Process reimbursements.
  • Assist clubs with equipment purchases using a University Purchasing Card or arrangement of Purchase Order requests.
  • Responsible for supporting the fiscal operations of 10+ assigned sport clubs with support from the Recreation Services' Sport Club Accountant and Student Affairs Business Services.

Risk Management/Compliance

  • Provide on-site event management and logistical assistance for Sport Club home matches, games, and tournaments.
  • Support the execution of risk management strategies to ensure a safe, exciting student experience.
  • Responsible for assisting in the implementation of risk management protocols to ensure the safety of Team Sports' activities on behalf of the University.
  • Ensure compliance in obtaining appropriate waivers.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities are safe and suitable for use.
  • Review and approve assigned Sport Club travel.

Collaboration

  • Work with both internal/external program areas and departments to ensure successful programming.
  • Collaborate with University Marketing & Communications to build, manage, and implement any media and promotional needs. This will include social media advertisements, social media posts and reports, webpage edits, promotional fliers, etc.
  • Supervise the social media accounts/sites of sport club organizations.
  • Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for the Recreation Services program and facility improvements.
  • Ensure that the Recreation Center's facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department quality by using and attending its offerings.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings.
  • Assist with additional initiatives, assignments, and special projects as needed.
  • Encourage an active and appropriate media presence to recruit, retain, and advise members, as well as promote club activities and accomplishments.
  • Engage in annual diversity and inclusion training.
  • Work with University Licensing & Branding to ensure club compliance with all brand standards.

Summer Event Management

  • Manage set-up and tear-down of equipment used for special events.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal as well as external constituents to satisfy service expectations.
  • Provide excellent communication and dissemination of information to event patrons and leads.
  • Hold summer event management responsibilities through Recreation Services Operations & Events.
  • Meet and greet customers for special events, meetings, competitions, and summer camps.
  • Supervise facility operations for assigned events.

What You Should Know

  • This position will have an afternoon and evening schedule including a weekend day during the school year.
  • Hours will shift over the summer depending on the activities happening from week to week.
  • The normal working hours during the academic year are 11 AM - 7 PM, Sunday - Thursday.

What We Require

  • Ability to obtain First Aid certification within three months of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 year of experience in Recreational Sports programming, or a similar field.
  • In lieu of a degree, an applicant may substitute an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and encouraging a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or dedication to do so as a member of the CU community.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Master's Degree.
  • 2 years GA (Graduate Assistant) experience may substitute 1-year full-time experience.
  • Experience with collegiate sport club administration.
  • 1-2 years of experience making purchases and reconciling accounts.
  • 1+ year of experience supervising employees, interns, and /or volunteer personnel in a recreation setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management and ability to motivate students.
  • Experience with collegiate sport club administration.
