Job Description

Stanford's Graduate School of Business has built a global reputation based on its immersive and innovative management programs. We provide students a transformative leadership experience, pushing the boundaries of knowledge with faculty research, and offering a portfolio of entrepreneurial and non-degree programs that deliver global impact like no other. We are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in service of our mission of developing innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change lives, change organizations, and change the world. We invite you to be part of this mission.

The mission of the GSB’s Teaching and Learning Hub is to support GSB faculty in delivering world-class, transformational learning experiences that equip and inspire tomorrow’s leaders. The department houses a wealth of resources for supporting professors’ instructional needs, including learning design services, educational technology integration, course materials development, case studies writing and distribution, guest speaker engagement, experiential course support, student coaching and facilitation services, and more.

Teaching Excellence within the Teaching and Learning Hub (TLHub) at the Graduate School of Business (GSB) provides support for faculty in the development of their teaching skills and guidance in accessing resources to deliver world-class courses. We are looking for a Teaching Excellence Program Designer to lead the design and development of learning solutions in service of the professional development of faculty. As a Teaching Excellence Program Designer, you will assess faculty teaching needs and support in the design, delivery, and evaluation of an overall program to satisfy faculty’s teaching needs and help them succeed in the classroom. You will help GSB faculty to prepare to teach by supporting a robust onboarding program for new faculty.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in learning design and project planning and be excited to collaborate with other teams within TLHub, GSB faculty, and stakeholders at the GSB to support faculty in their teaching. In addition to demonstrating effectiveness in assessing teaching needs and creative problem solving, you have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You are flexible with projects and willing to pivot if needs shift unexpectedly or with time. You are able to apply a customer service orientation when supporting faculty questions and needs.

Please Note: This is a hybrid position, requiring regular on-site work for a minimum of 2 business days a week at the Stanford GSB campus.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Uncover the unique teaching needs specific to GSB faculty.
  • Collaborate with learning experience design, instructional technologists, and media design colleagues to determine how to support and enhance the learning solutions.
  • Deliver a range of solution types, including web-based resources, workshops, consultations and more, to support faculty teaching needs.
  • Drive teaching excellence through classroom observations, individualized coaching, and recommendations to faculty about teaching strategies and techniques.
  • Design and develop workshops, presentations, and resources for faculty and staff on topics related to teaching and onboarding new faculty.
  • Implement, evaluate, and maintain faculty-facing resources and training materials on teaching-related topics such as effective course delivery, pedagogy, and teaching best practices.
  • Interact with and manage key vendor relationships.
  • Share best practices through cross campus collaboration and instructional design community.
  • Respond to incoming questions from faculty and members of their instructional teams in a timely, service-oriented manner, and refer faculty clients to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Draw on research and best practices from fields of learning design, education, and other relevant fields to inform the design of teaching programs and resources.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with faculty and members of their instructional teams to assess teaching needs and design faculty development opportunities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of classroom teaching practices and proficiency in applying pedagogical approaches and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all members of a cross-functional team, including faculty, program staff, and external vendors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals at any and all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

In addition, preferred requirements Include:
  • Master’s degree or higher in education, curriculum and instruction, learning technologies, or related fields.
  • Experience developing and delivering learning experiences for higher education faculty audiences.
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • Comfort supporting faculty who teach a variety of management education topics, including quantitative or qualitative subject matter.

The expected pay range for this position is $80,000 - $107,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
