Job Description
Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.


Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), as assigned.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to engage and motivate all students to be successful.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Use the district approved scope and sequence to plan instruction.
  • Serve as a role model for students.
  • Create formative assessments that will measure students’ understanding and mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
  • Exhibit professionalism and ethics.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students’ mission of the school district.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Use data to drive classroom decisions.
  • Use appropriate resources to plan and deliver instruction.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
Communication
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Exhibit professionalism and ethics.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Policy Implementation
  • Develop strategies for improvement of student performance that include factors in T.E.C., Section 11.252.
  • Participates regularly in the areas of planning, purchasing, curriculum, student scheduling, staff development and campus organizations.
  • Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal pursuant to the policy of the board of trustees.
  • Participate in establishing measurable performance objectives for all appropriate academic excellence indicators for all students.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as assigned.
  • Participates in annual comprehensive needs assessments addressing student performance on the academic excellence indicators, and other appropriate measures of performance, that are desegregated by all student groups served, including ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sex, and populations served by special programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Minimum Experience:
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship


Supplemental Information

Supervisor Responsabilities:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
