Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, as a co-teacher promote the Early Childhood Education Center's Mission, Vision and Values. Follow guidelines as outlined in the Staff and Family Center Handbooks. In collaboration with Co-Techer plan and implement developmentally appropriate practices for the children. Model teaching techniques for and evaluate the performance of students.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- In accordance with Center policy, create individual classroom policy and procedures handbook and revise as needed.
- In collaboration of Co-Teacher plan and implement developmentally appropriate, anti-bias curriculum for children enrolled and make available for reviewing and weekly display.
- Maintain confidentiality of family, child, and academic student records. Exercise discretion in application of handling of confidential materials when needed.
- Evaluate performance of student employees, volunteers, and student teachers.
- Keep daily records of attendance such as parent sign in/out contact logs through the childcare management software and application Brightwheel.
- Assume in administrative duties for the Early Childhood Education Center in the absence of the Center Manager.
- Participate in the annual maintenance of Excelerate IL Gold Circle of Quality and the NAEYC accreditation process through documentation preparation.
- Assume responsibility for the daily health and safety of children, and assist Center Manager regarding the health and safety of academic students, volunteers, and other adults. This includes field trips, other Center activities, and any emergency situations.
- Assist in maintaining children records and files, both electronic and paper, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date including Compiling, analyzing, preparing and distributing of the e reports, correspondence, and other documents as needed.
- Maintain Gateway membership, Gateways credential, 20 hours of in service, CPR, First Aid, Food Handling Certificate, and any other requirements set forth by IL Gateways to Opportunity.
- Develop and maintain healthy and safe physical and emotional environment in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the licensing standards set forth by the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) and the established best practice standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Create a schedule for and conduct family/teacher conferences two times a school year and as needed.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with classroom families, co-workers, academic students, college faculty and staff, community volunteers and visitors.
- Schedule and implement classroom orientation procedures for children and families, students, and volunteers.
- Participate in Center professional and marketing activities including: meetings, conferences, in-services, family events, recruitment and community outreach, e.g. Preschool Nights and Open Houses. Represent the ECE Program in the college and in the community-at-large. Assist with event planning and coordination, including scheduling and logistical support.
- Assist Center Manager in daily functional needs of the center such as identifying ordering needs and submitting work orders.
- Implement on-going assessment of children three times a year utilizing Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment and implement group assessments as needed.
- Maintain communication with families through newsletters, Family Facebook page, parents' boards, Brightwheel chats, and other communication avenues.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood development, education is required and/or Associate Degree with at least 5 years of experience is considered.
- The teachers shall maintain a professional relationship with children, families, students, faculty, volunteers, staff, visitors, and other community members.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace is required.
- Ability to navigate and input online curriculum in assessment tools and application is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Must be able to acquire IL Gateaway of Opportunity Level 4 credential or higher within 2-3 month of employment.
- Ability to operate general office equipment is required.
- First Aid, CPR and Food Service Handler certification required or obtained prior established start date.
- Three years experience teaching in early childhood education classroom is required.
Physical Demands
Light lifting up to 30 lbs. and light carrying up to 50 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is predominantly performed in a classroom environment. Demonstrate visual and auditory ability to observe children and consistently scan the physical environment.

Functional supervision is received from the Center Manager.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional Supervision is exercised over Assistant Teachers, student teachers, volunteers and student employees.
HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
