Job Description

DEPARTMENT: Aquatics

STATUS: Part Time

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility through Aquatic Awareness Education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates with supervisory staff on any potential hazards or concerns.
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly pool deck free of clutter.
  • Leads a lesson group; learning names, talking to participants to identify fears, and goals.
  • This position demands honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
  • Communicates participant progress to supervisory staff and parents when needed.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Knows and enforces emergency procedures and safety regulations in order to ensure participant safety.
  • Ensures a safe environment for all participants and staff using any part of the facility.
  • Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice as permitted by local, state and federal statutes.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Less than high school and at least 14 years of age. Swim lesson instruction experience or willingness to be trained required. Experience individuals working with children is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with staff, faculty, students, university officials and the public.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work enthusiastically within constant changing priorities.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  • Uphold and abide by policies, procedures and regulations of the Aquatics Department and Campbell University.
  • Exercise good judgement in complex and/or new situations.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Work effectively in a group as a team member
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
