Definition
The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating production processes.
The Sustain Engineer supports the engineering function by analyzing designs for manufacturing and assembly, estimates costs, prepares bill of materials and part numbers, and plans and justifies capital equipment.
The Sustain Engineer provides training to new operators and provides technical assistance and supports to the production department as necessary.
The Sustaining Engineer reports to the Application & Sustaining Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
• Create and maintain Bill of Materials and Part numbers in ERP as needed
• Create and modify product CAD documentation (parts, assemblies, drawings) as needed
• Streamline production build with UL and ETL accreditation
• Assist in streamlining processes of taking plans for a product from development into full-scale production
• Make recommendations for improvements to the product from the perspective of production
• Design and perform product testing and analysis as needed
• Perform quality assurance functions as needed to ensure high levels of quality in assembly
• Provide technical assistance and engineering support to the production floor in ensuring production of quality products
• Analyzes and plans work space requirements and workflow, designs layout of equipment and work space for maximum efficiency
• Confer with suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
• Assists with quarterly UL/ETL product audits
• Assists in special projects as needed
Requirements and skills
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience in new product development, introduction processes and procurement protocols
• Motivated and creative, work well under pressure and operate effectively in a fast-paced team environment
• Must meet internal deadlines and customer due dates
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate needs and demands in an effective manner
• Detail oriented, focused and able to produce accurate and professional documents
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ERP, SolidWorks or CAD modeling software
• Understanding of UL safety standards
• BS / BE or relevant field is preferred
